Can someone please explain the tethered part of this jailbreak to me?
... just to clarify, I understand the concept of tethered, I know what it means but I want to know how this affects the AppleTV... eg with the iPhone, this means if the battery goes flat, you need to reboot etc then you must tether it to your computer.... but with the AppleTV, when do you have to do this? only if I unplug it?? Or everytime I tell it to sleep, will I have to tether it to wake it up??do'h

I have a pc with a truckload of streaming programs, but since plex is mac only, the jb does squat for me.
I really, really wanted to replace my popcorn hour with an appletv, but with all of this, I think I just need to give up and go towards the boxee box.

you can do this for free. what a ripoff.
while plex might not be great as of now, it includes mostly all of the features that make it worthwhile.... scrubbing, artwork, info for movies and tv shows, and music are all now working. check out the plex forums for a more info. there are only a few people working on it over there so if you are interested and have coding experience you should hop over there and try to lend a hand.

what apps can we install on jailbroken apple tvs?

Currently ATV flash just makes it easier to install stuff that you could manually install. Seas0npass is just the standard tethered jailbreak, with a nice GUI.
PLEX is really the only good current reason to jailbreak the ATV. It lets you stream .avi, divX and so on, to your AtV and really gives a much nicer interface than frontrow, by automatically scraping all the metadata for your movies and tv shows from the Internet. So you can see cover art, episode titles and synopsis, etc. Plus, it allows you to view Hulu and other web based video in non-Apple approved formats.
That said, once 4.3 is released with 3rd party Airplay enabled, all that could be irrelevant. Even now, you can install AirplayEnabler on a jailbroken phone and stream .avi and .divX via AirVideo. There are some limitations, but it actually works quite well, even over remote wifi if you have a decent connection at both ends. I've been streaming movies and tv to my vacation house (which is over 1000 mi from my home running AirVideo server) via my 3GS to an ATV2, and it works extremely well, great picture quality, and no interruptions or sync problems at all.
If Apple ever allows 3rd party apps to be run on the ATV, it would be possible to just run an AirVideo client right on the box. That would be really sweet!

So i began by using season pass, did everything i was supposed to and i got an error 1600. Tried it again and got an error 1604. So i went in to the host file and deleted the lines and it worked. I redid the jailbreak everything went well. Booted it tethererd and connected it to my TV. it looked like it was still in DFU mode(the lite was blinking very quickly) and when the screen came up all i got was the Connect to Itunes screen. So i disconnected it and went back to itunes and tried to restore to its original settings. After about an hour of messing with it i got it back to the original settings. Ive run seasonpass again and still it shows the connect to itunes screen on my tv. Any suggestions? am i missing something or should i just try and use pwange.
