Found this on Engadget:
Update: We've heard that iTunes 126.96.36.199 can restore a bricked phone with the 1.1.1 update. No confirmation yet, but feel free to let us know if it works for you in comments.

I've been reading threads since yesterday, about having a unlocked phone for other network providers. People should be patient, did all you guys think apple was going to update their firmware in our favor ! They have a contract with att, cingu, bellsouth super conglaumorate. I have been doing this since the beginning and if i make a new door stopper , so be it because you wait next year alot of company will be modeling their phones like the iphone. But for now working on this ****.

I have a few people whom I am unlocking iPhones for. Unfortunately, they do not have iTunes 7.4.1 on the Mac. Does anyone know how I can get iTunes 7.4.1 for the Mac on their machine?
Thank you in advance.

I have 7.4.2, no 7.4.3 shows up?
09-29-2007, 09:32 AM #27
Is anyone running 7.4.3 with 1.0.2? And if so, how is it? Any harm in doing this? I have to set up a new PC for someone with an iPhone, but i don't want to put 7.4.3 on if it's not going to play nice with the old firmware... and does anyone have a link for 7.4.1?
Sorry for the 100 questions..

i have 7.4.3 and 1.0.2 and have had no problems, it did as me to update to 1.1.1 but i declined and said do no ask me again and everything has been fine.
I am looking for a 7.4.1 file though just in case if anyone has a link i would appreciate it.
btw - i disable my internet every time i connect my iphone to the computer.

Currently running 7.4.2 - no probs. 1.1.1 is available...I don't think I'm unlocked...how can i know this (Still using orig. sim card...no hiccups yet with HackT&T) Where can I view if unlocked or not - all I have is installer, All the new "themes" and sounds, some games, etc.
7.4.2 is fine to use - no worries. I use it currently but don't install new iphone update yet
me too. no update for mac yet

I have 7.4.2 on a Mac and 1.02 firmware on iPhone (unlocked) and it WORKS FINE. You can update iTunes to 7.4.2 (which is currently the latest for Macs) and still be able to unlock it.
Also in the iTunes Preferences => General you can uncheck the option "Check for updates automatically"

It depends on what software you used to get the installer app on your iphone and when you say hackt&t does that mean you are using like a gophone from at$t or cingular?
thanks for the info about not having to disable the internet.

I have a brand new iphone right now and want to unlock it. How can I update to version 1.0.2 (not the 1.1.1) and start from that point on?

Check the unlock Wiki. Instructions are in the first few paragraphs..

I'm runing 1.1.1 and I had a hacked phone I restored it before I update it and it didn't brick. I'm mad pissed now case I can't degrade case I have a pc. My Freind works at an apple store and he knows how to degrade on a mac only.

uhm u can unlock it now as long as u dont update to 1.1.1
whats so odd about wanting to use an iphone on a diff network.
it doesnt MAKE you update.

it's not like your phone is going to go update itself...you still have to click the update button or click "yes" to the popup "do you want to update?" question...the same goes for itunes. there is no forced update for either itunes or the phone...Black 16GB 3G iPhone w/bestskinever
