Navigate With iPhone Using Fordís Sync Destinations App
If youíve ever driven a car with GPS you know how difficult it can be to input destinations into the navigation system. Ford has released a new app called SYNCģ Destinations to make this job a little bit easier. Sync Destinations is free and available for both the iPhone and Android. It is compatible with 2010 and 2011 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury autos equipped with Sync navigation systems.
With this app, drivers can input destinations and get real-time traffic info from their mobile devices. Trip information can then be transmitted wirelessly to the vehicles navigation system. This frees drivers from having to input addresses into the GPS system, using awkward dashboard knob and button schemes. Drivers can also access Fordís syncmyride.com website using this app.
Sync Destinations can also access real-time traffic information from 126 North American cities. It also includes a safety feature where the app will not function if the car is going more than 5 MPH. This feature is designed to keep people from being distracted from the road while driving.
SYNC TDI product manager Dave Gersabeck recently said, "Sync Destinations leverages the power of your smartphone to manage a user's Sync Services account and to plan ahead, sending destination locations to your car, and knowing what's happening on the road ahead of you before you even get behind the wheel.Ē
Most cars on the market today have about the same computing power as a desktop computer. With so many drivers using smart phones, it only makes sense for major car manufactures to develop apps that can be used with a carís onboard computer. Sometimes, inputting a destination into a GPS unit can take longer than the drive itself. Hopefully, more car companies will take a cue from Ford and integrate smart phone features into future car designs. All of a sudden, I feel like taking a road trip.

For everyone with a compatible car this is great. I probably wont use this but one day when I get a better car lol. Really looks kinda easy to hack and mess around someones trip though. So many new uses for the iPhone nowadays. Totally a great convenience though!

I love the sync system, tried it out when I test drove an Edge a few months back. But the Sync was the best part of the car I drove - I got a Subaru Tribeca instead.
Microsoft should have marketed this as a standalone gps system then could be installed just like any other double din head unit does.

I see a ford vs. Chevy debate about to happen. How funny it is to see an iPhone topic of discussion go from one subject to another.
