Skype for iPhone Now Features Video Calling
Skype has updated its iPhone app to include video calling over Wi-Fi and 3G. With Skype 3.0 you can make two-way video calls to other iPhone 4 and 4th gen iPod Touch users. iOS users without front-facing cameras can still receive video, but they can only transmit audio for obvious reasons. You can also use Skype in landscape mode as well as portrait mode with this version.
Making video calls to Mac and PC desktop users is now possible with this updated version as well. You can now stay connected in a more personal way even if you are at either end of the country. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that data charges apply if you are using 3G. If you don’t have an unlimited plan, you may want to keep an eye on the length of your video calls because video eats up much more bandwidth than regular audio calls.
Video calling up until recently has always been relegated to the world of sci-fi. For years now, movies have depicted a future where videophones are the norm. Now that future is here and with devices that fit in our pockets no less. With Skype adding video to their popular calling app, they will surely give Apple’s FaceTime a run for its money. Competition in this segment of the market will only lead to bigger and better things. Video calling is still in its infancy, but as the technology continues to evolve, it will become a standard feature in countless devices. Just wait until Apple comes out with the iHolo-iPhone. Then video calling will be really interesting.

i have loved using fring and tango so we will see how skype does...my guess better than tango but fring will be a little harder to beat since it does a fantastic job with bad connections by keeping pretty good quality.

This is great news. Just wish it would've happened while I was stationed in Korea. I've always preferred Skype over the others.

That's cool, though I don't need it anyway, I never use video calls
Why would I need to see the person I'm talking to?
Maybe only on very rare occasions...

I've tried it on both the iPhone 3G and the iPad and neither let it work in landscape mode so it might be a iPhone4 feature only.
