Rumor: Sam's Club to Sell iPhone 4 for $147
The holiday shopping season has not been spared from the red hot retail rumor mill in the least. On Monday, one of the biggest rumored iPhone sales in recent memory sprang up thanks to a "leaked internal memo" that supposedly originated from Sam's Club. According to the document, Apple's 16GB iPhone 4 will soon be available for $147 with a two-year AT&T contract. Similarly, the 8GB iPhone 3GS will be rolled out for just $47 with a two-year contract.
Given Apple's aggressive push into the shelves of major retailers, it isn't a big shocker that the Cupertino-based tech giant would turn to Sam's Club as yet another viable outlet to carry the world's most popular smartphone. "We will be offering these devices at this outstanding Member value until Christmas Day," the memo reads. "Please reprint your flags and have a great sales weekend."
With smartphones and tablets being among the most popular gifts this holiday season, retailers are massively slashing prices on many of the hottest would-be gifts through Christmas. This is a practice that has surprisingly included Apple's iPhone to an unprecedented extent. From now through December 25th, there is no shortage of opportunities to buy an iPhone at discounted prices. And if the Sam's Club deal actually manifests, it could very well be the best iPhone deal available anywhere this holiday season.

My guess is even though the price is only $147, they're still gonna tax you for the regular retail price of $399. That's why I got my 3G[S] at walmart. They tax for the displayed price of $199. (I've had a 3G[S] for a while now lol)

Technically yes. I bet its like a coupon or something.
Let's say you go to walmart and get 100 dollars in misc. But you have a 20 dollar off coupon. They tax you on the 100 then subtract the 20.
Either way your saving more money then if you went to apple

Sams club is like an oversized walmart. You can buy things in bulk there. I believe its a 30 dollar a month membership fee but the deals you can get there on just about anything is amazing.
Sorta like costco. Not to that extent tho
Can they do that? It doesn't sound legal to me, taxing on an amount other than sale price.
I worked at Sams Club for years doing cellular, and they did not charge the retail tax. I'm at Costco now, and they do charge the full retail tax. I had to Google it because no one at the store could tell me why Costco charged this tax. Apparently Costco charges this tax at all stores because it is required in some states, so they just made it universal.
Also found out from a high up at Walmart that stores that dont charge the retail tax are just eating it.

The best buy in Logan Utah was giving iPhone 3GS free with new contract a week or so ago.
