Default Apple Now #1 Mobile PC Maker in North America

According to third quarter sales results, Apple is now the number one mobile PC manufacturer in North America. DisplaySearch - which classifies the mobile PC segment as notebooks, notebooks and tablets, put Apple in third place worldwide, behind HP and Acer. Apple shipped 6.3 million units during the third quarter of 2010, representing 12.4% global market share.

The iPad alone accounts for 8% percent of all mobile PC sales worldwide. When it comes to North American sales, some analysts have estimated that 45 percent of all iPads manufactured are sold in the US. If you exclude the iPad, Apple would have come in globally at eighth place in mobile PC market share instead of third. HP sold 9.5 million laptops, netbooks and tablets in the third quarter for a 17.3% market share. Acer came in second place worldwide, selling 9.1 million mobile PCs for a 16.5% market share. Overall, 55 million mobile PCs were sold in the third quarter of 2010.

The iPad has room for growth in the non-Western world, the DisplaySearch analysis found. Chris Connery, DisplaySearch's vice president of large-format displays, said that "one developed region where the acceptance of the iPad has been weak is Japan," adding that "questions of local language content and language-specific apps have slowed acceptance in this tech-savvy region." The (perceived) need to sync to a PC has also hindered iPad adoption in the developing world.

Hmm... Interesting facts. They would dominate I think if their prices were more closely in line with other pc manufacturers

I am not too clear on the difference between "notebooks" and "notebooks."
    Oh, that's what that is!

It's your brain that have an issue understanding this statement not poor logic. What he's trying to say is Apple is #1 in the "US" but third "worldwide". Which I believe is BS considering how expensive Apple's mobile pc are.

    ps - Apple's brain > Android's brain

It is absolutely retarded that the ipad be considered a mobile computer. It runs a mobile phone based operating system. This is why I get frustrated when reading news articles. The parameters used are total bollocks.

Statistics can be "bended" to suit anyone's argument stance.

Nope, too many restrictions on the iPad for it to be considered a mobile pc.

He won't be missing out on much since he already have an iPod touch. Replace "fun" with "ego" would make more sense.

I am not seeing how the chart being world-wide totals has any relevant bearing on why they are including Ipads in their totals.

If this was a Chart acknowledging Apple as the Number 1 manufacter of Mobile Devices (which then would incude Macbooks & iOS products) in North America, then I could accept that. But to toss things that flat out don't belong into said category and touting this information as a solid lead leaves me scratching my head.

Not even Apple calls the iPad a laptop.

I feel there laptops are expensive but that apple. It's not a cheap brand. It's high end which should cost more. It's the American logic, high class brands for high class people. Bing American is feeling better than the next person
You don't like the iPad because you don't have one!

Yes it does, #3 worldwide. Not North America. It got me for a minute too, lol.

Isn't this post contradicting??? Perhaps hypocritical?
