I don't really get it. If you're on 4.2, and restore back to 4.1, your BB goes down with it. However, once apple stop signing, u can still downgrade firmware with SHSH saved, but not BB? How come Saurik's server can't do the same thing?

Because the baseband has its own SHSH to deal with. And unlike the firmware SHSH where you can use the same one every time you restore, the baseband SHSH is randomly generated each time. So the SHSH that you get during one restore will not be accepted in the next restore.

Watch Apple screw us over and gives us random SHSH everytime.

I predict it will do that on iOS 5.

Couldn't Saurik just cache all the bb shsh, and do a plug and shove? ;\

I might be of a few, but I actually wanted to go back to my iPhone after using Android. At first it seemed awesome to me but then it got me bored...

Im sorry if im feeling ****** today, but i didnt really think about that at first. I dont really use bluetooth ever, and keeping this in your pocket and then using it dosent do much good either. Is that your phone or are you really really excited to see me?

Im continuing my ****** streak right now.... So you are really going to go around with this and use it as your main phone? With bluetooth or without, this would be fine for a tablet, but not for a phone.

    Wait...

Also didnt they block phone capabilities from US models?

Lol. I love Cydia, but it's a shame to have to use it if you want a full functional phone. I used to think the iPhone was the ultimate phone. Not without jailbreaking it's not.

In order for Cydia to cache all the possible nonce responses, Saurik would need to cache 16^40 or 146,150,163,733,090,291,820,368,432,716,283,019,65 5,932,542,976 responses. And that's assuming that the responses aren't strictly hardware-dependent or that the baseband is limited to a forty-digit hexadecimal number-used-once.

Basebands for the i4 have always been nonce-signed. Always will be (it's a bootrom requirement). However, the actual generation of a nonce and its reception are all done (I think) in the baseband firmware (AT+XNONCE command is sent). The baseband bootrom just looks for a validly signed certificate response with a response that matches the nonce the firmware generated, maybe the IMEI, maybe the BB serial number, etc.

There's a check of some sort for BB version or BBUpdater running in 4.2.1. However, it doesn't appear to be in userland, and it likely only runs once (as evidenced by phones on 4.2.1 having outdated basebands). Perhaps it's not a version check that's causing this issue, but rather, Apple just blocked the method TinyUmbrella uses to throw phones out from recovery mode.

I'd still love someone to trudge through iBoot, the userland, and get a dump of the NVRAM on a "non-booting mismatched-BB" 4.2.1 phone... and someone far smarter than I to analyze it!

It actually warms my heart to know that you're so bitter about your "Apple experience" that you feel the need to constantly talk about and put down their products. Go you!
