Jailbreak 4.2.1 with redsn0w 0.9.6b4

MartiniBoy got out in front with this earlier today, but I just wanted to make sure the news was on the main page. The Dev-Team updated redsn0w to version 0.9.6b4 today, which, as Nick detailed yesterday, provides an untethered jailbreak of iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 3G, older iPhone 3GS, and non-MC iPod touch 2G, and a tethered JB for the iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch 2G (MC model), iPod touch 3G and the iPod touch 4G. thanks to a combination of pwnage2 exploit, the arm7_go exploit, 24kpwn, and limera1n. For best results, upgrade to iTunes 10.1 first.
Again, it's very important to note that if you unlock, you cannot use redsn0w as it will update your baseband. So if you're an unlocker, or have a newer iDevice and would just prefer the security of an untethered JB, wait for the PwnageTool update before loading 4.2.1. Even if you are ready (like I was) to take the plunge, make sure you back up your SHSH first.

yay Jailbreak!
I'll be waiting for the PwnageTool update, personally. Good luck to all who go with redsn0w!
Edit Poseidon:
For everyone with a newer device - iPad, iPhone 4, newer 3GS, New iPod Touch.
Red Redsnow first to install Cydia. Your device will finish the jailbreak process and Cydia will appear white and crash when you try and open it.
THEN run redsnow AGAIN and chose "Just boot tethered right now" which will run through the process again but this time Cydia will appear as normal and open up just fine.
Thank you to the post on the second or third page for pointing this out!Last edited by Poseidon79; 11-23-2010 at 05:25 PM.

Remember this a teathered jailbreak so you will have to jailbreak everytime you have to reboot. You will lose your unlock if you do this jailbreak

I write Mac only tutorials for the iPhone and own every model. My iPhones run on the following SIMs/networks: AT&T, GoPhone, H2O, O2, SimpleMobile, T-Mobile and Verizon.

So i can finally update my 3G from 3.1.2 to 4.2? i have a handful of apps that no longer get transferred to the phone because they require 4.xx fw to work, i don't care about unlocking, but i do care about all the little tweaks i've done to the phone.
