No AirPrint Support for Mac, Windows Printers

There's increasing evidence that iOS 4.2 and Mac OS X 10.6.5 will not support AirPrint to Mac and Windows shared printers. References to using AirPrint with shared printers have been removed from iOS 4.2 beta docs, and a dev has reportedly been told by Apple Support that AirPrint would not be work with Windows and Mac printers. If true, this means that iOS 4.2 users will only be able to print to the five HP printers with built-in AirPrint support.
An Apple press release from September 15 says that "iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users can simply tap to print their documents or photos wirelessly to an HP ePrint printer or to a printer shared on a Mac or PC." The release notes from the iOS 4.2 golden master, however, specifically warn that "iOS 4.2 devices can print wirelessly only to printers that support AirPrint and are running the latest available firmware."
One developer wrote on the Apple dev forums that Apple Support told him that "Support for AirPrint on Windows and Mac has been cancelled," and that Apple "will be in contact with you if another opportunity arises in the future." Other developers are claiming that the feature was removed because of compatibility and stability problems.
I don't have a 10.6.5 beta shared printer to test my 4.2 GM against, but the reports are frequent and consistent enough to be credible. If this turns out to be the case, the absence of straightforward printing options will be a blow for wider acceptance of the iPad in particular, which is beginning to make major inroads into the business market.

I'm really tired and hungry, but I'm pretty sure that says that I can't do what I've been doing... Although I can't figure out what 10.6.5 has to do with the windows side of it.
that's what i figured. got really confused cause i just printed something from my phone this morning.Last edited by frail1; 11-10-2010 at 11:41 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

My best advice would be if ur runnin 4.2 GM on your ipad then don't update to the public release 4.2. I have been able to print documents with the 4.2 GM feature just fine.

I believe this story is now outdated. On the Mac rumors site, a message from Jobs refutes the claims airprint has been dropped. Why doesn't someone ask Jobs before we go off at rumors not substantiated? From what the industry has been saying, new printers are including airprint to their wireless options already.

Jobs replied in an email that it has AirPrint has not been cancelled and not to believe everything you read.

I seen Bigfoot today !!!!!!!! And he was printing fine from his iPad 4.2 gm. He didn't have much to say, but I was able to witness him printing in the wild.

This seems accurate as reported by AppleInsider as well: AppleInsider | Inside AirPrint: Apple's printing system for iOS
They say that only HP ePrinters work as well as Windows 7 for some reason.

I wonder how much this will boost HP's printer sales?
