Free, Legal (?) Live TV on your iDevice
A new service allows you to watch network TV on your iPhone or iPad, free... at least for now. FilmOn.com offers live HD television in the US complete with commercials in what the company says is a free month-long trial. They claim that this service is "100% legal, but that didn't stop a lawsuit from a group of broadcasters. So grab it while you can: the site may not be up for long.
FlimOn was originally launched in the UK last year. The US site went live last month, featuring 30 channels like ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, the WB, Ion, and overseas networks such as Scuzz, Dubai Sports, and BBC News. It's run by what the Hollywood Reporter refers to as an "eccentric billionaire" who says the law allows what he is doing and has hired lawyers to defend himself. "Without a doubt, the Copyright Act upholds what FilmOn.com is doing," Alki David says. "There is no difference between the Internet and satellite. There's little difference between having a digital television box (and having television delivered through a computer). It's all just semantics. People need to stop being afraid of opening up doors to digital technology."
I'm particularly stoked about this service, because I don't have a television set at my house. I can watch TV shows and movies on Hulu or download them from iTunes, but what I can't get is live programming. I'm streaming the San Diego-Houston game on my iPhone while I'm writing this. Looks like I just figured out how to justify buying an iPad...

Tried it this morning. It works but it's a bit of a buggy mess. Streams can take minutes to load and not only does the app frequently crash but it regularly reboots the entire device.

Been working ok for me. For some reason I have access to more channels on my iPad than on my iPhone.

My ipod touch 2g gets about a dozen channels (including two porn channels lol) but every station I check has the video freeze after about 10-15 seconds (audio continues/buffering issue I guess). Awesome idea, but not worth it... just turn your tv on.
Beautiful HD on pc though

This is going to get shut down fast especially because of the porn channels. It simply gives you a tiny yes/no pop-up asking if you are over 18...

I did not know that modmyi promoted porn. I checked the link and made a short cut to my home screen. Something told me that I should look a the channels listed as my kids play with my iphone all the time. And yes, two porn channels , deleted the shortcut. For those in the same situation as mine, beware.
