Netflix App Now Supports Video Out
With all the hype surrounding Apple TV and Google TV, Netflix has released a surprise of its own today. The Netflix app has been updated to include video out for the iPhone 4 and 4th generation iPod Touch. To watch Netflix streaming on any TV all you need to do is hook up an Apple AV cable to your compatible iOS device and you’re good to go.
Apple’s forthcoming Airplay technology will accomplish the same thing, provided that you have an Apple TV and Wi-Fi set up in your home. But what about when you’re traveling? That’s where the beauty of this update comes in.
Imagine being on vacation with your family and you all want to watch a movie together. Before this update you wouldn’t be able to hook up an iPhone to a TV and watch a movie together. You and your family would have to huddle around a little 3.5-inch screen. Not very fun, to say the least.
Apps are updated regularly, but occasionally minor additions like these can make all the difference in the world, given the right conditions. It’s nice to know the next time I travel, I’ll be able to stream Futurama to the nearest TV. Of course I’ll need the right cables and a good Wi-Fi signal to do it.

Can you guys comment on the actual video quality of iPhone out to tv using netflix app? If quality is better It would seem to make more sense to travel with an apple tv instead.

Netflix determines the quality the iphone 4 can only put out 720p max with a apple connector. so i assume that the apple tv can put out 1080p with the hdmi out. but you wont notice the difference on a tv when traveling lol

Yeah, problem with streaming on vacation is that you have to be in "your own" country when you do it. I'm in the U.K. right now visiting family and friends and NetFlix is TOTALLY NOT working over here. Bummer. :-(

Also the depends on which cables you use and how strong the wifi is.

I'm watching Nip/Tuck on my 46" LED in HD. I hook up my iPhone 4 component cables(HD compatible) and noticed serious degradation and lots of pixelation. I'm assuming NetFlix lowers the quality suited for the iPhone screen which looks sharp on the phone, but needs to change the resolution for video output.
And yes I'm using wifi(10mbs)
If anyone else has a better experience, please let me know

Cool. But not as cool as the fact that my iPhone is 100% video out capable. Got to love JB. What would be cool is if the phone came with video out as a standard feature. My JB app works just fine as a standin oem feature now. :-)

I guess with my Wii at home I wouldn't use this much...but it would come in handy if I'm on the road.
I might be putting a video-out cord on my Xmas list.

I have a 3GS and it is JB. I have a netflix account. Do I need a special app to do video out?
I was thinking of getting these cables, any other options?
Apple Composite AV Cable - Apple Store (U.S.)
Thanks for the help.
