I wonder if this will support Hulu, but I bet if they do then Hulu may charge users in the Apple TV a monthly fee since they charge iPhone/iPod touch/iPad users $10 a month when I can just watch it on my computer for free and at the same time connect my computer to my TV. So there's no point in subscribing to Hulu if they'll charge it for Apple TV users when I can already do it for free using my computer. However I wouldn't be surprised if they actually did charge and place ADS on it as well so it will rip people off.

The issue ain't about whether the Apple tv is great or not. I think its cool but if it was jailbroken great but the jailbreak hasnt been released to the public. And many days and weeks have gone with no 4.1 jailbreak/unlock for all devices.

I'm sure someone will port the Hulu+ App to the AppleTV in no time.

Ok, excuse my ignorance in these matters. Does this mean the unreleased Shatter JB might be untethered? Or does the Apple TV cant be rebooted? Just asking..

You don't like the iPad because you don't have one!

Welcome to modmyi.com, a fun site for those that like to talk about all things Apple, from their line of products to the exploitation thereof. You seem to have taken my words as obviously meaning that I need 6 or 8 (who cares, its not enough) gigabytes of storage to put media files on the Apple TV; you are mistaken: I'm thinking of storage for jailbroken apps.
Were you aware that, like media files, jailbroken apps take up storage space as well? It's true!
So, let's say the Apple TV has 8GB of storage space - is that 8GB available to us, or 8 total? How much of that space is taken up by the OS? How much is available for (jailbroken users) to play around with? If you take a second to consider this, you realize very quickly that storage is important for more than just media files, and you quickly conclude that you should rescind your comment. No one will blame you for jumping to conclusions, but please take a second or two and consider the meaning of what others are saying before flaming them for the face value of their words. This website and their forums are a place to talk about Apple products, not give into blind Apple fanboyism - not every comment has to be positive and cheery and pro-Apple, but it should stay on topic.
Please remember this so that in the future you can better interpret the words of others, and make the modmyi.com forums a better place.

I answered my own question by going to my apple store and buying one.

Not to sound to stupid, but is the Apple TV any better than something like the WDTV from Western Digital?

It has already been stated that the main OS partition is 750mb, so there will be 6gb or so of free space. 6GB is MORE than enough storage space for apps considering you don't need the gigantic apps like navigon or tomtom (I concede that there are a few freak apps like Elements that are way too bloated). Also, there happens to be this wifi ability in the machine that can stream files from networked computers. Finally, there is the mini-usb port on the backside that will allow you to hook up an external hard drive to the Apple TV.

What I'm thinking is using apps to access all sorts of files that are on an external drive, etc. I mean, with the USB Camera Attachment, the iPad gains a USB port (which it should have already, granted), but that doesn't mean that everyone can suddenly do everything file storage-related by simply hooking all kinds of storage media to the USB.
If you check wikipedia, it says that the new Apple TV "also has a Micro-USB port, but this is reserved for service and diagnostics." So, no native-support for hooking up externals means a dev will have to make a jailbreak program for it. etc etc.

I have my computer hooked up to my tv and watch stuff through plex but the cords are a ***** and that means my macneeds to be right by my TV. apple tv is a cheap alternative to netflix and even better since i dont have cable in my room here. so to me its worth the $120 cdn

The capability was made possible on the original model so I have no doubt that it will be doable on this one.
