SHAtter Decrypts AppleTV iOS Firmware

Earlier tonight I had seen Chpwn tweet about the new Apple TV firmware, which is indeed actually iOS based as we had hoped for. The firmware is even available to download from Apple's servers, before the product has even hit hands of anxious pre-order customers.

Shortly after hearing of this, the Dev-Team posted a small update to their recent demo of SHAtter, stating that SHAtter has been successfully used to decrypt the Apple TV iOS keys!

The main filesystem (“Mojave8M89.K66OS”) key for 018-8609-066.dmg is:

31c700a852f1877c88efc05bc5c63e8c7f081c4cb28d024ed7 f9b0dbc98c7e1406e499c6

If you’re familiar with vfdecrypt, you can use that key to decrypt the image and mount it. If you do so, feel free to use the comments section to discuss what you discover there (And of course, thanks @pod2g!)

I have a good feeling about the next month.

What would be the point in JB-ing an apple tv? I just use my Xbox 360. Same thing and it plays games and music and dvd's and will connect to my pc for media center and get on facebook... Etc etc.

Yeah but if you can root it and install apps on it then applications like airVideo, slingbox, VLC player and hulu+ can be installed hopefully. Plus who knows what the jailbreak community will do with it - possibly make it worth buying?
Can your xbox do that? No really can it, I don't know

Hulu+ on AppleTV is a great idea.

Now how do you get your SHSH saved.

Unless they make it like the old one and have the firmware it came with inside and allow you to revert back to it at anytime.

Sweet!!! Another thing for me to jailbreak, My Iphones, ipad, ipod, ps3 and now apple tv. It Just Keeps Getting better. I can wait for apple to come out with a toaster so we can jailbreak that so it does stuff like make more then 1 piece of toast at a time and other stuff other toasters already do.

Apple TV would be good if it could actually receive 'free-to-air' television. But I suppose internet connections are that fast these days there really isn't a reason you can't just stream everything.

If the jailbreak makes it so you don't lose the video after you've watched it, I'll get one.
