How to enable HDR manually.
You must have OS 4.1 and jailbroken in order to gain access to your root system.
You have to ssh into your Iphone go to this directory, you can use WinScp to edit and do the transfer.
iPhone 3G: /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist
iPhone 3GS: /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N88AP.plist
In the Capabilities section of this property list file, add a key named ‘hdr-image-capture’ with a boolean value of ‘true’.
Your key should look like this :
hdr-image-capture
Save it and copy back to the folder and overides the old.
Reboot your iphone
Go to the Photo in Setting and turn the normal to OFF.
You are all set.Last edited by iYeow; 09-30-2010 at 10:10 PM.

I have a different problem: I have a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone 3GS (old bootrom). pwned at 3.1.2, then sn0wbreeze to 4.1. However, whenever I go to Cydia it does not list this app, nor HDR Camera Enabler. Is there something I need to do to update Cydia?

I did do that--but the hdr button doesn't show up in the camera app (it does have the on/off switch you mentioned in settings, though).
Some reason I checked it once more and this app showed up--but it didn't change anything. Maybe it's because I have the old bootrom 3GS?Last edited by levitening; 09-25-2010 at 12:02 AM.

When you turn it off, then when you take a picture, it will be HDR.
You can compare the picture you take with ON and OFF
Yup, you won't see it in the Camera apps

Ah! Simple detail. Thank you so much! I think I can see the difference--but it's night so there isn't a huge dynamic range around my room. I'll definitely try it tomorrow!

How do I get my background wallpaper and battery percentage back up and running after using this mod on my iPhone 3G?

Ok I looked into it. It doesn't appear for an unknown reason.
Yes Game Center doesn't work, because there is no Game Center.app in the Applications folder. You have to copy it by yourself.

HDR is great and all, but it bugs me how you can't use flash with it

This does NOT enable hdr on iPhone 3GS. Neither does modifying the .plist file manually. I have pro hdr from the app store and know what hdr photos look like, and sad to say this package doesn't work.

Why no flash? I guess it makes sense though as one uses flash in low light situations where the dynamic range is quite limited... I mean HDR isn't going to do all that much at night or in a dark room. Ironically I was playing with ProHDR in my apartment last night. The light level was low and consequently ProHDR didn't really do too much. Also after reading that these new HDR features were a result of Apple's acqusition of imense I wanted to give imphoto a test-drive. I really wasn't super impressed with the results which left me unsure of why Apple purchased the company. Maybe their desktop software has some nice stuff we'll see further down the road in iPhoto and Aperature as well as some useful IP. Interetingly however imphoto seems to take a single photo on which it performs the HDR post processing. Also it does the processing very quickly. By contrast ProHDR snaps two pics at different contrasts/exposures/aperture settings/etc., merges + processes. The whole process with ProHDR takes much longer, however yields a substantially better result.
The HDR photo examples on Apple's site certainly look high quality, better than imphoto and on par with ProHDR.
Having not used the built in implementation I am left with the following question; do third party camera apps that implement Apple's camera API include the option to use HDR by default?(ie. most include that nifty little button to switch to the front cam) If so this would be awesome to use in conjunction with Occipital's ClearCam. I often use my i4 as my primary point-and-shoot and regularly am required to produce very high res images for later analysis and while the i4's 5MP sensor produces excellent quality images post processing with ClearCam does an awesome job of creating a true high quality 11MP image(a feature that I wish Apple would include by default!) it would be that much better with the addition of HDR!

I am not seeing a difference in these "HDR" photos on my 3G. Not at all.

this is an old trick that I saw few days back on Sinful. Only difference was that it was to be done manually by editing the below files and adding 'hdr-image-capture' to the "Capabilities" Section.
System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N88AP.plist (3GS)
System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist (3G)

I uploaded the games centre app manually to applications folder and it starts then crashes and closes

Is gamecenter really worth it??? I mean, there are far better games out there to play on iPhone....
