Suppliers Fuel Rumors: Apple Has Big Plans for December

According to Jeffrey Fidacaro, an analyst with Susquehanna Financial Group, individuals within Apple's overseas supply chain report that the company will begin assembling its first round of CDMA iPhones in December. The suppliers in question tell Fidacaro that Apple could build as many as three million CDMA iPhones before January 1, 2011.
If such ambitious plans materialize, Apple Insider notes that total GSM and CDMA iPhone production for the quarter would come in at around 22 million. Fidacaro, however, predicts that Apple will sell just under 12 million iPhones in the fourth quarter of the company's fiscal 2010. "We expect the September 25 launch of iPhone in China and Apple's target of making the iPhone available in 88 countries by month end to aid results in 4QFY10," he noted. "Our checks show that Apple is still struggling with yields on the mass production of the white iPhone 4."
While rumors have lingered for many months regarding a forthcoming ramped up building of CDMA iPhones, rarely is such talk of "certain plans" routed from overseas suppliers to prominent market or industry analysts. Of course, there are also other clues. "We believe the company has selected Qualcomm as its modem supplier for the CDMA iPhone as well as for the iPhone 5," says Ashok Kumar, a managing director and analyst at Rodman & Renshaw. "The iPhone 5 will likely use a two-chip modem, allowing the company to create 3G and 4G products."

I think that this is most likely one of those games of "We think you are, but will you?". Knowing how Verizon is, if Apple DOES decide to launch a CDMA version of the iPhone on their network, All I'm waiting to see it another pathetic "VCAST" and "VCAST TV" stuff that they force on the phone. You have to go through all of their stuff just to use it, which is pathetic.. So I'm eager to see how pathetic they'll do it this time.
iPhone 4 16GB Jailbroken/Unlocked for T-Mobile USA with all the bells and whistles.

As much as people want to believe that this points to a Verizon (or Sprint) iPhone, it's important to realize that the US isn't the only country that uses CDMA, and for Apple to have global coverage in all markets, CDMA really is something that they will need.
There are CDMA carriers in Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Hong Kong, El Salvador, Guatemala, Israel, South Korea, Peru, Russia, Venezuela and Zambia; not to mention China. [source]
Even though I live here, the US isn't the end-all of the World. CDMA iPhones could be for any number of carriers in any number of countries, and if they were going to launch for Verizon, 3 million units would not cover it and you'd be looking at a Wii-like shortage and people waiting for MONTHS to get their hands on one.Last edited by liquidzoo; 09-22-2010 at 08:59 AM.

As long as verizon doesn't charge for everything...I doubt apple will allow it. Like the above poster said, apple will want complete control over iPhone. So either verizon takes it as it is or they'll still be "second".
