Jailbreakers: Beware of Fake Greenpois0n Websites
Jailbreakers: Beware of Fake Greenpois0n Websites
As the jailbreak community eagerly awaits the latest jailbreak for iOS 4.1, some unscrupulous individuals have decided to exploit the situation for personal gain. A website, using greenp0ison’s name, but a .info instead of a .com domain, has been set up to trick users into giving out personal information. The site invites users to download their software, but then starts phishing for personal information, such as Facebook login info, phone numbers and more. A YouTube video demonstrating the Jailbreak process and linking you to the fake site is also circulating, making this site seem all the more legitimate.
On this fake site, a large download button invites you to download the latest Jailbreak for all Apple iOS 4.1 devices. When you click this button, instead of downloading any software, you get a window that asks you to complete a survey before you can unlock the promised software. Out of curiosity, I actually completed a survey with fake information, just to see where it would lead, but the site just kept asking for more personal information. Beware of this website, it does not Jailbreak anything!

Developers are feverously working to bring actual Jailbreak software to the masses as soon as possible. According to twitter account @p0sixninja,
“I see a few fake greenpois0ns popping up. Don't be fooled, it's probably a virus. Greenpois0n is the official site,” he states.
I’m sure Apple will be quick to point out this incident as reason enough to maintain tight control over the iOS platform. Unfortunately, trickery of this sort is sure to follow, as the Jailbreak community continues to evolve.
I can’t wait to see what legitimate Jailbreak developers come out with next. Till then, I eagerly await an untethered Jailbreak for my iPhone 4.

From a marketing standpoint, this is genius, but as someone eagerly waiting for the jailbreak, it blows.

Lolz@ sh*tra1n!!!!
I really don't think "credit" is due here. A bag of stomped goose turds should know better than to fall for a fake jb, if not in the name or the fact that the internet isn't on fire, then by the survey request. If you take random jailbreak videos as fact, well, you deserve whatever happens to your computer. Anyone who stated the obvious isn't really due anything IMO.iPhone 4 to Android directly back to iPhone 4. I learned my lesson and will never leave iOS again.

"LOL, this is being reported?! I ran into like three of these EXACTLY like this TO THE "T" on iOS 4.0! They had the fake vids and everything. The only difference is they were using the LimeRa1n name instead. P.S. To whomever it may concern, you need to fix your damn links. Like 30% of the time I click one it asks me if I want to download *.php. I'm using the latest Firefox browser.
Oh, and by the way, I wasn't actually stupid enough to give my info to those sites. Lol.Last edited by Zokunei; 09-16-2010 at 08:21 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
