Four by Five: Four Apps All About Fives

One of my favorite apps is Five Icon Dock. I'm not quite sure why I am so attached to it still with things like InfiniBoard and Folders, perhaps it's just stuck because it was one of the first tweaks I ever used on my first Jailbroken iPhone.

Nonetheless, I've come to the generalization that the iPhone likes fives. There is enough screen "real estate" that, ultimately, sets of fives can give you twice as much at your fingertips in less gestures.

Today's breakdown is Apps all about fives. You can find any one of these in Rock or Cydia for FREE.

Five Icon Switcher (new)
iOS 4 Compatible

Recently added to the collection, Five Icon Switcher, does exactly what it says; Adds a fifth icon available in the Task Switcher build into iOS 4.

Five Icon Dock
iOS 4 Compatible

Simply allows you to add a fifth icon to your dock.

Five-Column Springboard
iOS 4 Compatible

Add more icons into one page by installed Five-Column SpringBoard.

FiveIRows
Not Yet Compatible with iOS 4

Unfortunately it is not compatible with iOS 4 yet, but it works great on previous firmwares. Not sure if we can expect an update on this one.

While your at it, check out the MultiIconMover in Cydia/Rock for easier organization of arranging apps. It's FREE.

Call me crazy but, this is only 4 apps about fives?

I must always have 5 icon dock. I need to have the default icons there PLUS irealsms....i panic if i dont.

I kept scrolling up and down looking for the 5th app lol...too many 5's all over the place!

Nice list though! And 5 icon dock is a classic!

I find that the five icon dock is what gets me the most attention on my Iphone... Other than the themes that is!

Infinidock!! Wayyy better! I have my 5 most used icons as the first 5, with the swipe of a finger, the dock smoothly scrolls to five more! I have 5 folders set as my next five, as I find folders ugly, and it puts them at one quick and easy spot!

If u havnt tried infinidock do!! U can also change the spacing between icons on ur dock, have them snap or not. Great app, tons of flexibility, and it's only a dollar!

Try using a theme like Matte Nano along with these tweaks. Any theme infact that has slightly smaller icons would make it much more easy on the eyes.

Thank you. These articles are very informative and helpful. Hopefully we can get past some of the recent issues and get on to making the most of our phones which is why we enjoy jailbroken iPhones to begin with!

I had 5 icon dock on my i4, but every time some app or utility that was not yet playing nice with iOS4 would send me to SafeMode, that 5th icon would close out and all the apps in it would be scattered across my springboard. Got bored with that, now have two apps and two folders in the dock. Folders have Infinifolder, so can hold hold as many icons as I want. Not as cute as 5 icon dock, but SafeMode (which is rarer now that things are sorting out) doesn't cause me to have to make a new folder and shift all the loose icons back into it.
