My guess is the reason it takes so long is because they need another FCC approval for the new coated antenna, no point putting out another iPhone with bridging problem.
Now if they put out white one where antenna is fixed, getting consumer reports recommendation back that would cause it to get on the news again. That would be a plus for Apple.

Yeah all you guys go to Verizon and slow there network down and when you all leave ATT that will free more traffic for the rest of us.. Sounds like a plan to me...

I think Iphone is present but Android is future. To get cool features, you have to jailbreak in Iphone but in Android, they already have a feature like multiflow. And you don't even need to buy it.

Verizon all the way, but T-Mobile still owns the iphone on GSM. I would rather chose crappy t-mobile than att. Ill grab their micro sim and shove it so far up my *** so i can **** it later. Take that Att

Sheesh, where to begin? OK, there are 300 million+ people living in the United States alone, how many of them choose to be with Verizon, and how many of them DON'T have an iPhone? Yeah, it's a helluva lot! There are only 100 million iDevices sold so far, which is only scratching the surface of possible sales. If all of those sales were ONLY in the USA, that's still only 1/3rd the population (and iPhones are only a fraction of that percentage).
As for CDMA and GSM: NOT EVERYONE LEAVES THE COUNTRY. While there are those that use the SIM card as their main reason not to switch, it's really not that great of a reason for most people. I have no plans on leaving the nation, and even if I did, I can't think of one person I would want/ need to call while I was over there.
You "hate" CDMA? Stop being a drama queen. CDMA is a private standard, whereas GSM was developed as an International standard. The Internationalization of something isn't a good thing in my opinion. Case in point: the United Nations. Instead of going with a network that uses a reliable signal (CDMA), or the infrastructure that is best for their particular region (GSM radio equipment drop calls far more frequently, which is simply a limitation of the technology), countries are more likely to adopt the GSM standard because their neighbors are, which isn't always the best reasoning.
And my final argument for CDMA: Germany uses it, and the Germans are the only country in the EU that AREN'T bankrupt -- anything that's good enough for the Germans is the good bet, in my book.
And just to beat a dead horse, China and Indonesia also use CDMA networks, which adds a couple hundred more million people to the list of potential customers for Apple if they adopt the CDMA standard. Apple, of course, would have made a CDMA and GSM version of their phones to shop around to the networks back when they were pitching the iPhone, but once they got their exclusivity deal with AT&T, there was no reason to pursue advancements in CDMA integration for years on-end. What I'm trying to say is that there is no 'magical' reason for Apple's SIM card -- they could just have easily mass-produced a CDMA version, and the sales would have been just as strong.

Yea, I dunno about that. I have an iPhone 4 (personal) and a Droid X (work) and find the ATT's network more reliable and wayyyyyyy faster than verizon. When streaming ESPN mobile, the droid will drop out more than the iPhone, even in rual areas where I have no ATT 3G it still performs better than Verizon.

Such failed logic.
Let's look at the facts. The iPhone 4 sales ridiculously exceeded expectations. In many places there are still insane wait-lists to even get your hands on one. How do you measure hindered sales based on that? Where do they get there numbers from?
For those of you that want to believe widespread speculations and rumors, I suggest you watch this ... It is a really good example of how posts like this come about.

I tether a lot.
No problem. That is something that the AT&T haters avoid like the plague when they try to talk so great about Verizon and CDMA. It's one of the largest reason I look over most of the rumor mill news posts. Anyone can bring about the negative in a company, but what about the positive? Yes, I do agree that Verizon's network is significantly larger, and supposedly more stable. But to some, if not most people, 3g is pretty pointless at least 20-30% of the time, considering they want to pull things up while on the phone. I can't even count how many times my buddy on Verizon has had to say 'let me look it up real quick and text you or call you back' I am usually browsing the answers while talking to him on speaker phone. lol

I don't know if you've been to California (the real west) I've had Verizon and AT&T and AT&T kicks Verizon *** here. I went to the Verizon store to compare the iPhone 4 and droidX to see if i should switch cause i don't get charge cancellation fees. and iPhone has better reception and the display kills the droid X

I believe the biggest thing we should take into consideration when the rumor mill starts spinning about multiple carriers is this ...
Apple can not meet current demands on their products. That means they are making money hand-over-fist, and their productions are going out as fast as they can slap them together. If they through another carrier into the mix, ESPECIALLY one that doesn't use the same design specifications GSM --> CDMA ... What on Earth would they do about production demands then? Split the difference, and make people have 2 month wait times on each carrier that wants the phone? It doesn't seem feasible. Maybe if they were seeing downtimes at their production facilities, then we could see it happening, but until then I would not hold my breath.
