iPhone 4 Gets First Mature Video Service via FaceTime

There was no shortage of MMi readers who predicted what FaceTime would evolve (or devolve) into for some users immediately following Steve Jobs' introduction of the hot new feature of the iPhone 4. Well, that hot feature just got a whole lot "hotter," if I may use the words of others to describe an entirely new industry begotten of the iPhone 4's video conferencing capabilities.

CultofMac is reporting that the first adult video chat service to utilize FaceTime has arrived. iP4play.com, as you can imagine, is hoping to make a pretty penny by serving up “the hottest Video Chat models from the sexy girl next door to Penthouse’s finest.” The company reportedly started advertising for these "models" on Craigslist just a few weeks after the iPhone 4 began reaching consumers.

Needless to say, there are plenty of folks upset about the arrival of this "service" on such a prominent Apple platform. Nonetheless, iP4play.com is moving full steam ahead with a business model they believe will make bank. Calls start at $4.00/minute with chunks of time being available in 5, 10, 20 or 30 minute segments. Calls cannot be charged to your wireless bill and instead require a Visa or MasterCard.

If successful, this could be the start of a whole new third party iPhone industry. I'll leave it to our astute MMi readers and contributors to weigh any pros and cons to that likely eventuality.

Now they just need to add a feature that will allow you to "poke" the person you are talking to while in-call. A small graphic at opposite the front/back camera switcher that will cause the device to vibrate.
Somebody will need to create phone condoms. This gives a whole new definition to #phoneskins

@ $4 a minute, they will make a lot of money just out of curiousity but I think it would sustain longer at .99 a minute. Other companies will undercut the price soon and like all services the price will drop.
