Speaking of which, is there any chance this fix could be ported to 4.0/4.0.1 and made available as a patch on Cydia?

alright don't think i had the shsh backed up just clicked it now on cydia so i'm sure it won't end up working. what about the tinyumbrella thing people are talking about how does that work?

Well by the description that iTunes gives of the update it says it only fixes the PDF whole... The only thing I want fixed is the damn proximity sensor!!!! I'm tired of hanging up on people and muting them!!!

JailbreakMe and jailbreak a phone by themselves and figure out the exploit used and patch it? it had nothing to do with people going into the apple stores and jailbreaking the display phones. the jailbreak is open to the public

So I'm assuming now that 4.0.2 is out, a device "Pending TSS" on Cydia won't ever show as received correct? Since I used TinyUmbrella though I guess it doesn't really matter as I have it on my pc. It did say "Success" on both pc and Cydia, so I guess it's on their server? Thanks for all the helpful comments and links!
Oh and for newbies like me, using TinyUmbrella took like 5 minutes.

I'm considering canceling my order, since mine isn't due to ship until the 24th. Perhaps those in this thread who have devices on order could let us know if their devices ship with 4.0.2 when they get them?

I just don't understand why all of the sudden people are ready to jump ship!
Just an example:
When 3gs came out and it had 3.0 and there was not jailbreak for it!
Then they was!
Then it went to 3.1, then 3.12 then 3.13 then OMG 4.0
Then there was the Iphone 4 and no jailbreak
Then there was!
I personally think that there will be if not already a jailbreak for 4.1 but if there is not and jailbreaking is over I can say I had a good ride!
But I can't swim so I am not jumping ship!
There has never been a guarantee but the jailbreaker's have always come through and I think they will this time, but still no guarantee!

so here is my next question: if my SHSH's are saved and I want to restore to 4.0.1, do i need to do anything besides hit ****-restore and manually select 4.0.1? do the SHSH just automatically do what they do? im not too familiar with how the SHSH workiPhone 4 life b*tch

I have been trying to go from 4.0.1 back to 4.0 on my Iphone 4 because after jailbraking it I get random rebooting!
Please someone answer this!

NO. If your SHSH is saved to Cydia, you need to edit your hosts file to point gs.apple.com at Cydia's IP (which I can't remember but you can Google). If it's stored locally, you need to run tinyTSS and give it the path to your SHSH file (i.e. "tinytss -f *filepath*"...read the readme if you don't know what to do) and edit your hosts file to route gs.apple.com to localhost (127.0.0.1).
THEN do shift-restore, which should now work.
