I need to check my EULA, but I thought it said that the iPhone was completely open source and free for anyone to do anything they wish. Furthermore, if something bad happened, Apple would gladly replace the iPhone with a new one (not refurb) and issue the poor soul a free $100 gift certificate.

Seriously, my favorite question is "when will the developers release the update?" (as if they are sitting on it waiting to see if anyone is interested)

The IMEI reported by the software doesn't necessarily have to reflect the actual IMEI. They simply could have entered the XXXXXXX0000 IMEI as a flag/error message. The actual IMEI would probably have to be verified by an external means before we talk about sending anyone to prison.

In Europe it is a criminal offense to alter, or change the IMEI of a portable telecommunication device. I'm not sure what the status is in the US, but if apple attempt a similar trick once the official UK release occurs in early November 07, they surely are committing an offense every time they alter a IMEI of a handset?

Um, isn't that what the unlockers do? change the IMEI? Wouldn't that imply that the people who UNLOCK are the ones doing the criminal offense?

help me out. I know the difference between a jailbreak and unlocking. I used ibrickr to jailbreak. Added some 3rd party apps, installer, etc. Also, i installed PXL using ibrickr but did NOT install any application to crack the SIM.

So if i were to restore my phone to factory and then update to the latest iphone update, my phone will not brick, correct? All that happens is a lose all of my mods and 3rd party apps..?

i would do a restore before i update just in case.

but hacking and unlocking are different

if i can go back in time i would not update

No. They just remove the SIM lock. That is not illegal at all.

You will be fine, and you will not be able to install any more mods, and all your 3rd party apps will be lost. This is detailed in the first post of this 50 page thread.
