Planetbeing already tweeted he has his iPhone 4 at 4.0.1 unlocked. The unlock requires a jailbreak so I think it's safe. But who knows for sure

Thats good news, maybe I should upgrade my i4 to 4.0.1 in prep!! I seem to be having more fun on my jailbroken 2g than my stock iPhone 4 lol

I rather be safe than sorry. I haven't experienced any defects with 4.0 and it seems fine for now. I will suck it up and wait patiently for the JB and update when the time is right. thanks to all that are giving us the 411 on these updates and what's being fixed. koodos to you guys!!!!

I'm not sure if you're referring to 4.0.1 or 4.1, but either way: 4.0.1 is jailbreakable so you would be fine to update to that. And Comex's Jailbreak will be out before 4.1 so you won't even have the opportunity to update to that firmware.

Make sure you save your blobs people.

Interested to hear what was added/removed. Since I'm using an iPhone 4 most likely 4.1 will be out for a while before we see a jailbreak. Oh well...I just want any jailbreak no matter the firmware!

To clarify:
4.0.1
Will almost certainly be jailbreakable, it is essentially the same as 4.0
4.1
May or may not be, if the 4.0.1 jailbreak is released before 4.1 is out, then it probably won't be jailbreakable because Apple will have fixed it.
Regardless, back up your shsh files in TinyUmbrella while you can.

Update 1 : All iDevice unlockers MUST stay away from iOS 4.1 BETA 2 if they want to keep their unlock!
Update 2 : iOS 4 beta 2 Change Log :

* Signal Bars fixed and taller.
* New Baseband (02.07.01).
* Game Center is back with new look .
* Camera Switch and Flash buttons reposition in landscape mode [iPhone 4 only].
* You can now choose to add Favorite as voice or FaceTime.
* Spell Check can be turned off in Settings.
* FaceTime and Game Center Parental Controls.
* Full Bluetooth AVRCP Support

I hope they fix the prox sensor issue, I'm having oddities with my texts shown up in the window about an inch above where they should be, safari has a bug where it doesn't go back on page but back to something like a day previous. I don't know if I'm the only ones having these weird bugs but it's kind of annoying to have texts display wrong and safari do weird **** when you go back one page. That's all the bugs I can remember right now and I hope they get fixed.

Edit: ita really annoying that the multitasking bar doesn't reorient according to the position of the phone. After touting how great the new six axis features they shouldn't have missed that. Apple has gotten worse and worse about attention to detail.
