iPhone 4 Activation Without Original SIM Card

Sherif Hashim has posted a video in which he demonstrates how simple it is to activate the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, without using the original SIM card that comes stocked. You can literally use any SIM card you want, however, you should keep in mind that any iPhone 4 users will be required to cut the SIM into a micro-SIM sized card.

Now before you get all excited, this does NOT mean the phone will be unlocked. This simply activates the iPhone. This is very similar to "hacktivating" the phone, much like we do when creating custom firmware packages. Without doing so, you're stuck on the emergency screen, essentially locking you out of the Phone for any use.

There is no programming needed, so almost anyone can do this without the technical knowledge that one might think would be required. While I don't fully understand how this works, this is what Sherif has to say:

This is not a bash, but I wish someone would redemonstrate this process with proper lighting, and not taking the iPhone out of view of the camera, etc.

If you are in the USA you can purchase an O2 wireless SIM at Best Buy for $9.99 to use in the iPhone 4. I have one and it works fine (as far as making and receiving phone calls). I'd personally redo this video but I'm not restoring to 4.0.1 just to demonstrate this.

Edit: Nevermind! I hear the Best Buy O2 SIM card does not work for activating.

Congratulations. Pointless. Only Jailbreak and Unlock are of interest. Just sold my iPhone4 for 700 cash today, getting myself a Canadian one, and eventually the jailbreak will be released.

Some people wouldn't mind having the option of using their iPhone 4 as an iTouch until the JB and Unlock are released. I have a hacktivated 3gs that isn't on a carrier that I let my daughter use as an iTouch ... There are also people out there that already have the phones that can't use them yet because those things aren't out. Why not be able to use your device for it's other options while you wait? I use hacktivation when I am going to sell them as well. Just to show the people that they have everything, are cleared out, and work.
