Amidst iPhone 4 Chaos, Apple Releases iMovie App

For those lucky enough to get their hands on an iPhone 4 today, you'll have some really cool apps to play with this evening, especially the new iMovie app, which Apple released in conjunction with the official launch of its updated fourth generation iPhone. The $4.99 application is, by all accounts, remarkable. so far, the reviews are overwhelmingly glowing, with five star ratings proving the norm right out of the gate.
The application, as already well documented, requires a new iPhone 4 running iOS 4. And Apple certainly isn't downplaying the power and potential of this nifty little app. "Make beautiful HD movies anywhere with iMovie, the fun, feature-rich video editing application for iPhone 4," Apple says of the new app's arrival. "Create a video postcard of your day at the beach and publish it to the web -- without ever leaving your spot in the sand. Or make a movie if your child's birthday party and send it to your parents -- while the party is in full swing. With iMovie for iPhone, you can start several projects and finish them whenever you want and wherever you want."

Unveiled earlier this month at Apple's 2010 WWDC, the iMovie app enables users to produce top quality videos that include themes, transitions, titles, music, photos, and even geolocation maps. You can use prerecorded or live video recorded directly into the timeline. It works just as well in landscape or portrait mode. Making matters even simpler, you can access the clips quickly in the trusty bin we're all familiar with. Best of all, the application doesn't waste an ounce of potential inherent in the 5 megapixel iPhone 4 lens and the device's ability to capture video in high definition at 30 frames per second.
So while the iPhone 4 launch itself is, without question, the biggest Apple story of the day, the arrival of the iMovie app is definitely the second.

Its a shame it wont run on a iPhone 3GS. I went and paid for it anyway because I'm getting the iPhone 4 in august for my birthday.

its a lot better than i expected especially for a mobile movie editor. reel director has more functionality but this is definitely a lot cleaner and user friendly. only 2 slide transitions though and the text is on for the entire clip.. maybe an update for a cutting tool would perfect this app.
