iOS 4 Goes Live

It has arrived.
Apple has released iOS 4 and the full slate of new features that come with it. As a result, the new iOS has sent iPhone lovers into a frenzy. And not without good reason. Compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, and the most recent iPod touch, iOS 4 will now come preinstalled on the iPhone 3GS, in addition to the 4th generation iPhone, on tap for a Thursday release.
To prep for the update, be sure to upgrade to Tunes 9.2 and similarly update all your apps. In recent days, a wave of updates have befallen the App Store.
The 2009 iPhone 3GS and current iPod touch model will see a host of new bells and whistles. Some of the features you're about to start enjoying:
* Multitasking
* Folders
* iBooks
* 5x digital zoom
* Tap to focus video
* Home screen wallpaper
* Spell check
* Wireless keyboard support
Shortly after Apple rolled out the new iOS, Version 1.1 of iBooks (now available for download) turned up, essentially making the app available on any iPhone or iPod with iOS 4. Best of all, while the iPad won't have the new iOS for a while, the new app does benefit iPad owners by bestowing the ability to open and read PDF documents and save them to the virtual bookshelf.
EDIT 5:13PM - As of yet, there is no public jailbreak or unlock for iOS4. The Dev Team have repeatedly been letting us know the last few weeks it's all able to be jailbroken and unlocked, so your best bet is to hold on updating a few days while they finish testing on the actual release version of iOS4.
Keep an eye peeled here, we'll let you know as soon as there's a public jailbreak and unlock for iOS 4.0. ultrasn0w already unlocks basebands through 05.13.04 as of today, so all we need is the iOS4 jailbreak solution to be made public from the Dev Team.Last edited by Michael Essany; 06-21-2010 at 03:14 PM.

If you already have the ios4 gm then you don't need to update they are the same builds.
Grbspltt
Google a program called recboot. It will take you out of the loop.

Although they are the same builds, those that want to be sure just go ahead and re-download the official iOS 4 update.
GM has a different MD5 hash to the official iOS 4, there might have been a few slight changes although it's the same build. I have not installed the official iOS 4 update yet to check. But some people are saying that the official iOS 4 does not have Game Center, while the GM Candidate definitely has it.iPhone 32GB 3GS - iOS 4.2.1 - BB: 5.11.07
