Apple Delivers New Retail Store App

While some thought yesterday's rumor would remain just that, Apple surprised many today by actually releasing its new and much-anticipated retail store app. As covered yesterday on MMi, the new iOS app (creatively dubbed "Apple Store")will serve as a veritable hybrid between a mobile App retail store and a so-called concierge-like service.

Available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, the app has all the basics covered. You can locate local store, purchase or preorder products, peruse customer reviews, and see what the latest happenings are at Apple. As expected, Apple is making it possible for Apple fans to stay on top of promotions and other in-store events through the app, which can also facilitate appointments for Personal Shopping, Genius Bar or One to One sessions.

It isn't exactly clear yet how the apparent support of notifications will work, although it is expected that "appointment reminders" or other pertinent updates could be dished out with ease from the Apple.

Since Apple released the new app on Tuesday, users can preorder the iPhone 4 directly from their favorite iPhone OS device running iPhone OS 3.0 or later. It's free, available in English, and only a 1.6MB download. Overall, its a nifty little application that presents a familiar and comfortable design that's easy to use - in fact, a little too easy to use when it comes to the shopping cart. Never has a "free" app threatened to ultimately prove so expensive.

Y can't they say the exact date of realase of thr white one??? Why???? Cuz I don't wanna wait till the end if summer :S if it's gonna take a long time I am gonna go with the black :S

OKay there is already a thread to whine about the iphone 4 only being able to pre-order in black. This is taking about an app which i think is awesome because it makes the apple store just that much easier to get to and it gets my check book kicked even more when it is down...

Yeh, it's US only. If you try accessing it from a link, iTunes popup says to see this app, click OK to change iTunes store to the US store.

I know. Worked beautifully for me... sorta. I had some problems with the fact I use AOL for my iTunes purchases and the Apple Store wouldn't accept the password for that so I had to make a new Apple ID, but besides that it worked flawlessly.

downloading it now since im having no luck online or over the phone for preorder. finally actually got through to an apple sales rep and she said that she couldnt even process my order..ugggh. [well it looks like you can only have it reserved at a store location. no delivery options]

Actually, the servers aren't a busy anymore. i reserved 1 iphone 4g black in under 60 seconds. As of about 11:30, you're good to go when it comes to online pre-ordering.

Why would they only make a iPhone app and not one for the iPad? I understand it will work on the iPad, but not as a full screen app. Am I missing something?

yup, it does, but then it says my account is only valid for the UK store. It's a free app, why limit it to US only?!

they still seem to be down or clogged. i got close this time it even finally went thru the verification process and i accepted that all the info was correct.[then] *your request could not be processed*

This Apple store app is great! I just reserved my iphone 4 at my local apple store in just a couple minutes! Great job apple. Soon these servers will get bombarded too lol

it would be even better if you could select a personal address to ship it to rather than just a store. my closest apple store is an hour away
