Wal-Mart Stocking iPhone 4 Beginning June 24th

Wal-Mart has announced this weekend that it will carry the new iPhone 4 on June 24th, the first day of the 4th generation device's availability. Best Buy has not yet confirmed that it will stock the updated Apple smartphone on launch day, but some suspect that a formal announcement on its availability is imminent.
As it stands, prospective iPhone buyers can either pre-order their handset beginning June 15th, or battle the masses in person at the nearest Apple, AT&T, or Wal-Mart on the 24th. Wal-Mart, however, will not offer a pre-order option through its website. Nonetheless, the launch-day arrival of the iPhone 4 in Wal-Mart stores marks the first time the major retailer has stocked a new iPhone on its first day of availability.
As reported yesterday on MMi, Apple is mass producing the new iPhone at a dizzying rate. Robert Lai, chairman of Asia Optical, revealed that his company has been turning out some massive shipments of VGA lens kits for the device's front-facing video camera since last month - enough, in fact, to place a monthly production estimate at three million units.
As a result of Cupertino's preemptive steps to avoid the same supply glitches observed with the iPad, Apple is obviously looking to spread its release across a wide number of outlets as of launch day to help increase the product's availability and also reduce the long lines and consumer frustrations that would likely mount very quickly if the iPhone 4 had only been rolled out at Apple and AT&T outlets.

iphone used to be really elite, cause only total nerds had them, and that made it 10X cooler. It's bad enough that average people have them, but now that Wal-Mart is stocking them.
Here comes the poor folks!

I wonder if Apple will offer the "contractless" iPhones, like they have 3GS now, for 600$... Still locked to ATT, though. That would be great for all of us who don't like commitment to ATT.

LOL, wow. You realize walmart has had the iPhone for over a year now right? **** the middle class and below, right!? Also, since when does nerd = rich? The iPhone was never meant to be a nerd phone.
Nope, employees get a discount from AT&T on their monthly bills but no discount on an already subsidized phone.

i know, i know. i couldnt help myself. i am weak. probably poor too. might as well just ban me now and get it over with. i obviously dont know how to behave myself in public. i blame it on my upbringing and that my parents shop at walmart and buy clothes at salvation army. i should just give up right now. ill never be cool. i should just sell my iphone and get a motorola flip phone. i mean, come on. who am i fooling? im not a hip, hacker/programmer dude. never will be.
