I wonder if people complain to their cable or DSL broadband companies.
"Hey, I only used about a gig of data this month to check emails and youtube. My neighbor downloads movies and games all day and has exceeded 250 GB. Can I get a discount?"
None of those companies do that (at least in the states, that I am aware of). Why the hell does ATT feel the need to do this? Now that they are doing it... why is 200mb of data so damn expensive? It should be like $5-10, not $15! I am happy to be keeping my current plan. Curious to see how well ATT does with getting new contracts now...

I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

yea, 33GB over 3G is ridiculous.

Also in the original post, it was left out that in order to keep the unlimited iPad data plan, you can never let your coverage lapse. Sounds like a contract to me, especially when one of the selling points of the iPad was unlimited 3G data only when you needed it.

The new plans (while I disagree completely with what they are doing) aren't geared towards just iPhone customers but to all data usage customers (htc, samsung, motorola devices). Many people with those devices don't even come close to the usage we iphone users do. Over the last 5 months my max usage per month was about 800mb. I know I have gone over the 2GB max before, but most of us that will go over this already have iPhones and will be able to keep our plans. The new iPhone customers probably won't have a problem staying under that number.
So for those that a complaining about this new move, you more than likely aren't affected by this so stop complaining. Instead, ask AT&T to provide better 3G (or 4G coverage) for all users so those that are paying more and getting less have the service that we are supposed to get.

I for one was paying for 3G that I did not have. Every since it came out I paid. Finally sometime this year it came to my area.... when I left Michigan in Oct I did not have it but when I came back from Florida two weeks ago I have it.
I was not happy that I could not get it but still paid for it and if I had to keep paying for it I would have to keep the plans like they have been as I feel the new plans are not fair. I have never been a data hog either but I do like the choice of unlimited which I am grandfathered in but the choice will be gone tomorrow.
It was like this with minutes before. I am sure in time there will be a war on data and things will get better I hope....

So I assume they are still not changing the text plans? I think if they added umlimited texting to the 30 dollar data plan most people would have stopped ********, yet they seem not to be touching texting at all.
Moving on, most of you who are complaining about these new plans need to put your phones down, step out into the real world and get a life already! If you are using GB's of data on a daily basis you seriously need a ******* life! To many people are joined at the hip with their phones and it's ridiculous...you seriously can't make it to work without using 2GB's of pandora data to stream music then you got major isses lol. Ever heard of a CD or MP3 files? Try them!
You all say people are ******** and ruining it for the rest...give me a break! I pay more for my data and text plan with AT&T for the iPhone then I do for my God Damn home broadband connection...now if that isn't crazy I'd like to know what is? Other companies (T-Mobile, Sprint) to name a few have cut the cost of unlimited for everything by half of what AT&T is charging and of course Sprint includes texting in their unlimited data plan. I'm not crazy about the new plans with AT&T but it helps, taking off 15 bucks for my data plan is a huge help to me...I don't live on the internet on my phone like others apparently do. I just think it's quite sad...

They should haw left the unlimited $30 data package there. And just added rhe $15 250mb package.
That would make everyone happy wouldn't it?
They are screwing many users over.
And if you go over your 250mb package you get charged and additional $15 for an additional 250mb?!? That's rediculous. Why not charge you the additional $10 and for that month it upgrades you to the 2GB package??
People need to wake up. Cause they are getting shafted. How is it fair? If the 2gb users go over their cap they get an extra gigabyte for $10. Lol
yet if the 250mb users go over they are charged $15 for an additinal 250mb. Scam!
Oops. Correction. 200mb cap. Even worse.
In my eyes:
dataplus = SCAM
datapro = FAIL
btw, im Not even on AT&T. But I just wanted to voice my duscust with new data plans. I'm on tmobile and still paying $4.99 for my unlimited Edge... Edge sucks but oh well. ;-)
Sorry for all the bad grammar. Autocorrect is Totally dropping the ball. Lol

They should just leave the plan how it is and add the option of the $15 for 200MB. I bet not too many people would change it. They are doing this because they want more money, not because they give a crap about their costumers. And by the way, almost everybody doesn't have an iPhone so of course 98% their costumers don't use as much data.
06-06-2010, 04:05 PM #30
EDIT: I don't think data hogs are wrecking for us... I think AT&T wants to make more money and they want to do away with the unlimited plans....
I also feel the same way you do... I am paying more for my data and such with my phone than my internet in my home. I would like a way to be able to cancel my home and use one for all devices I have....

I think AT&T are full of crap, 98% where did they pull this figure? 2gb can be used up pretty quickly. Especialy if you stream video or music. I use the Sirius app in my car, glad I'm grandfathered in. I just think this is a way to combat jailbreaking. People using Cydia, **********, especially MyWi. Why bring Mobi Tv (app sucks) or even Netflix. If they wanted people to be able to afford, make $20 unlimited. Because remember only 2% use over 2gb.
06-06-2010, 05:04 PM #33
I can say honestly, I'll be keeping my unlimited plan. I routinely go over that 2gb cap. I'm a regional truck driver, and I stream Pandora quite a bit. CD's are too cumbersome to deal with and the selection on Pandora is nice. Not to mention, that is my connection to everything while I'm on the road. I check email, web sites, and the whole mess right from my phone. Average usage is 4-5gb.
My fear is that by the time I am eligible to upgrade my iPhone, they'll change their minds about the ability to keep my current plan.
06-06-2010, 05:26 PM #34
200 megs being "reasonable" is a complete joke.
I have 17 days left in my billing cycle and I've used 202 mb. All I've done is listen to a radio station at work with Flycast. And that was only for maybe 6 days this cycle and only for 3-5 hours a day at most.
This change, along with constantly dropping calls in my house or anywhere else I go has convinced me to drop AT&T along with the iPhone. I'll try my luck with Sprint and the new Evo, which is a lot cheaper and still has unlimited data.
06-06-2010, 05:42 PM #35
The EVO is an awesome phone I would say go for it but if android is not your thing then you won't like it. A phone is only as good as its OS, and also a big factor is if you live in a 4G or future 4G area, which is the main feature of the phone but it also runs on 3G very well. 4G is currently in 30 or so cites. Check and see if your city is on the list or on the future list. Sprint: First and Only Wireless 4G from a National Carrier. Click "see 4G cites" at the bottom . My city is getting it by the end of the year, yay
BTW: Sprint is a awesome network and it has coverage nearly the size of Verizon's.

06-06-2010, 05:51 PM #37these sneaky b$stards fail to address the real question
How much bandwith will the new videochatting and online gaming interfaces use up?!
06-06-2010, 05:51 PM #38
I really liked my iPhone but the downsides just aren't worth it. Maybe if they had a different network than AT&T it wouldn't be so bad.. but AT&T having the stones to tell me to buy a device and connect it to my broadband just to get a signal is infuriating.
I'm fine using Android on a phone that's trying to move forward in technology and not sit stagnant to make more money like Apple is with the iPhone.

I dont see 2 major issues addressed in the first post, and they are the 2 most important:
1. If you order an ipad by June 7th how will you get the unlimited plan.
2. And if your response is you need to sign up by June 6th, then where is the specific guidance from AT&T on how to get a data plan started without having the device.
With all the "Journalist" sites out there, why can they get an answer to these questions?
06-06-2010, 06:38 PM #40
I stream airvideo and slingbox 2-6 hours a day while I drive my 120 mile commute and have used 7.6gb in the past 3 weeks. If I ever leave work and need my own plan it is going to suck! It's very unfair to drop unlimited and lower the price $5 for such a low data limit.
