Nintendo Declares War on Apple
Having defeated Sony, Nintendo is now setting its sights on Apple. According to a report in the Times Online, company president Satoru Iwata told his staff that the war with Sony is over and that Apple is the “enemy of the future.” The Japanese manufacturer is still making money, but has seen profits fall in the slow economy and intends to market more family-oriented games, which is seen as an Apple stronghold.
Nintendo has some justification to be smug about its position compared with Sony, as they sold almost twice as many Wiis as the number of PlayStation 3s that Sony sold during the 2009 holiday season. However, Nintendo's sales were 21% less in the first quarter of this year than they were in the same period last year. Nintendo's DS, though still the top-selling mobile game machine, is seeing its sales pinched by the rising popularity of iPhone OS-based devices. In trying to expand the Ds's appeal beyond the traditional market of primarily young, primarily male gamers, Nintendo is squarely in competition with the iPhone and iPod touch, which are attractive to a wider demographic range.
The company's hopes are largely pinned on the new Nintendo 3DS console, which is to be officially launched next month at the E3 Expo. Nintendo claims that the device will be able to be "enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses." Company president Iwata was interviewed by the Asahi Shimbun news paper and stated that the 3DS will have "highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing," though the company later said he had been misquoted. Reportedly, the three-dimensional effects will be able to be switched off in response to health concerns about long-term 3D use.

I wouldn't say defeated Sony. Wii is in a different playing field than PS3 and Xbox360 IMO.

LoL "having defeated Sony" Did Sony go out of business? Now, Palm is defeated. That's how you "defeat" someone.

^Haha NO, PS3>360 anyday!!!!!
Nintendo will never defeat Sony's Playstation brand, as kids grow up they'll want an 360 or PS3 until the PS4 or 720. They might mean the PSP though as PSPgo was epic fail but then again DS has crap graphics so yeh iPhone will beat the DS and PSP.
Wii is in a different playing field as it doesn't appeal to the hardcore gamers but for kids and old people. Nintendo are going to lose in the home console department to the Xbox and PlayStation and to the iPhone in the handheld consoles.

Please don't turn this into a Xbox vs PS3 debate.

Wii is crazy fun. i still play wii sports, and now wii sports resort, with the really accurate wii motion plus.
nintendo will lose the handheld market, but keep a firm grip on the console market.

Oh yeah, what are you guys talking about? Nintendo did not defeat Sony.
As we speak, Nintendo execs are in their offices, crying their eyes out, using their millions and millions of dollars over Sony's profits to wipe their weary tears.
Oh yeah, they totally didn't win.@iosalliance

you guys make me lol... I love Nintendo, but technically Wii is not a gaming console IMO... Apple keeps the handheld market, and Microsoft and Sony share the gaming console market

nintendo is awesome, atleast there games are. Mario, Zedla and those other games are the best games I have ever played. I'm hoping they will drop the wii and put a deal with apple to have wii games on the app store!!!! that would rule!!! we can use our wii remotes even!
and it would probably be for iPad only
