I think Apple should have did nothing, and just played it off as a fake. Now the whole world knows that its real.

i thought California law, says that the founder, who knows the owner5 and noit giving it back is a kind of theft. so Chen should be innocent and the real founder is the bad guy, who gain money.
so free Chen ...

we should be supporting him. without him the 4g would be unheard of lol

The guy knowing purchased stolen property. It became stolen as soon as it was offered for sale knowing the owner wanted his property back and insufficient effort had been made to return it. Gizmodo knew full well at the point of purchase the item was stolen. This Chen should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
And no, bloggers aren't journalists. Chen bought and exploited stolen property so his website could get more hits and he and his company would make more money. There isn't any muckraking going on here. Just plain loathsome theft and needs to be punished. Chen's antics alone may have cost billions to Apple's investors. Of course no one thinks about that. Not all stock owners are rich and can afford a loss, of any amount, and shouldn't have to over crap like this. Some of us only have a handful of shares because we're poor students trying to pay off loans in a more creative fashion.

Gray Powell made a terrible mistake but hey haven't we all at one point or another. The guy that took it from the bar is being called allot of things and I don't need to add to it here but he is at fault for not taking it to the bar manager/owner. Gizmodo, Chen and company are wrong.
It has been written the person that originally acquired the iPhone attempted to contact Apple.
I would have drove the phone to Cupertino and brought it inside Apple and asked for the head of legal and or Job's himself to turn it in. The person never took it to that extreme.
I sort of understand where Apple is coming from, Apple can and most likely will lose out monetarily wise but also the "fun" factor. Kind of like going to peak at your Christmas presents before your parents wrap them and Christmas morning arrives and you already know what your getting. Yeah I even looked at the web pages and hope it's not quite done and apple polishes it up a little although I would be happy with the way it is.
just my 2 cents

I honestly think someone paid Gray Powell to leave the phone, the person picked it up and sold it to Giz. Im sure it will go much deeper.

i dont know but would not give a sh** to all that, the guy who showed the ipad on the presentation day to woz, got fired, but the drunk a** who lost the phone, (which found by a "lucky guy" sold to the guys from gizmodo for $5000 who show it to the whole world, and was only commented by apple with the order to bring it back) still works at apple.
C'mon this was just a model which wont look like the real model presented on July 22, it looks like a cheap fake model from china from the last year.
I think apple is either full of a**holes, because they fired up the wrong dude, or didnt know what to do and let the "new" model leak to test te reaction of 100.000 apple geeks, or simply make fun out of them.
i bet, steve sits behind his mac book pro, reading all those posts laughing and thinking what f*****g i****s we all are.

your probably right. The impression i get from steve is that he is a really a-hole and thinks the world revolves around him.

Actually it is being reported that this search and seizure may be illegal, as he is a journalist and is exempt from such things.
