This guy is so self-deprecating in the video, but damn dude, you're a freakin genius. Perhaps he needs a few more pats on the back, because what he's done here is amazing. Google take heed! You should be hiring this man immediately. If he had a few more resources and he fully dedicated his time to this project Google could easily allow Android to be installed on the millions of iPhones and iPod Touches of the world. How on Earth would that not be a massive boon to Google? Hire this guy soon, or someone else will! Great job! I love my iPhone but I would LOVE the ability to give it some Android love as well. Who wouldn't?

Deep down, we all knew this day would come. planetbeing, a well-known member of the iPhone Dev Team, has finally released a video and download of a port of Android 1.6 (Donut) to the first-generation iPhone. He has been working on his "Linux on the iPhone" project for quite a while now, and even apologizes for it "taking so long." He has actually modified the iPhone's bootloader to his own custom build he refers to as "OpeniBoot." There's no telling at this point in time if this could open up the possibilities of other operating systems, mobile or otherwise, to eventually run on the iPhone, but as of now, only iPhoneOS and Android are options.

If you are not an advanced user, I highly recommend staying away from this; it appears to be an extremely involved installation process. Also, it is only for the 2G iPhone (and Apple said the 2Gs would be getting any future updates, hah). He claims that a release for the 3G shouldn't require too much change to the code, but a 3G S release is still a way off (which is quite understandable, considering the new, more secure bootroms Apple has been using in the 3G S phones).
