Weekly App Update: April 16th, 2010
Wow... Nothing to put here at all really. This week seems to be all about updates.
Rock App v2.22
- 35% Improved Memory Performance
- Improved Usability
- Improved Stability
- Improved APT handling
- Fixed Internationalization Settings & German translation
- Ability to open from rock:// URL)
There are a ton of changes for the update, but the biggest one you should note: "A license is no longer required to use biteSMS, if you don’t have a license or credits you will be shown ads instead. The intent is that those who can't afford / don't want to pay can at least help in supporting the biteSMS team by accepting the ads." I think this is a great move, as BiteSMS is actually really one of the best SMS replacements.
Added change tracks/fast-forward,rewind setting.
Keep Silent After Reboot
This update adds support for downgrading from the 5.13.03 baseband from

The BiteSMS for free move was a smart one. I personally paid for a full license AND have credits, but it's nice to know there's finally a free, legitimate quick reply solution in Cydia.

Cydia > Rock

If you can't stand Rock, and you think Cydia takes forever, use APT. From command line. Now THERE'S a solution we can all settle for.

For god's sake, people, give Rock a chance. Sure, it's not my favorite, but you can't deny that it's faster, more user-friendly, prettier, and has a REALLY nice package restore feature for after you update your phone. For the layman jailbreaker, it's probably even nicer because it's much more like an "app store" than an "APT repository aggregator." What 16-year-old girl with T-Mobile whose bigger brother happens to know how to unlock iPhones is going to want to worry about "managing packages" rather than getting some "cool apps?"
