You pay for unlimited data usage on the phone - tethering is specifically prohibited by your contract.

It is hardly surprising people complain about AT&T's network when they have a few people abusing the network like this.

that is clear abuse and the reason at&t probably hasn't added tethering. Now that AT&T's 3G is kinda slow, I try to use wi-fi when I can because of the faster surfing.

never have had any issues with service since i switched to At&t from Verizon. in fact i get 3G in 80-90% of anywhere i travel. no issues here. it handles all my.....what do you call it? "abuse" perfectly fine. maybe you should all try it sometime. [Confucious, your UK so nevermind] oh and LSZ33, well it looks like your either from South Korea or [TEXAS?] so yeah...no clue.

Is that even possible? For an individual to have perfect/great service while everyone else suffers? There are plenty of other iPhone/AT&T users in my barracks, yet no one was complaining about their service while I am tethered and downloading.

If you have plenty of bandwidth and not many users you might be OK, but normally? Yes.
