Question: am I able to change from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 eventhough I never had CYDIA and therefore never had my SHSH on file.
If so, can someone send me a link to a blog/tutorial/forum post?
Much appreciated!

You have a 3G? Just restore to 3.12 - although this obviously won't downgrade your BB it will downgrade your FW.
Why do you want to?He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

To run a BB downgrade program I found here:
How to Downgrade iPhone Baseband 05.12.01 to 04.26.08
Can anyone confirm it works?
Problem is, when I tried to restore to 3.12 I got the dreaded "sync cable iTunes screen."
What now????

Fuzzy only works with a very few iPhones - did you buy yours the day the 3G came out? If not then the chances of you being able to use Fuzzy to downgrade your BB are almost non existent.
Try running RedSn0w on your phone now to hactivate. He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

Download, run redsn0w.
I can confirm that the chances of Fuzzy working are very, very slim.He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

Can someone help? Can't figure out whether I should or shouldn't be able to jailbreak / unlock. I have a non-jailbroken / locked 3gs on 3.1.2 (I think) with 52 as the 4/5th numbers in the serial and iBoot-359.3.2. When I got it, it was unactivated. Ran blackrain which ran but nothing happened except iTunes recovery. Then tried Redsnow and again nothing happened.
Should I be able to use the current methods or am I a waiter....?

I am somewhat confused - blackRa1n does not unlock a 2G you have to use BootnEuter after to unlock it or just run RedSn0w which does it all for you.
If you just updated you shouldn't lose your unlock, if you restored you just have to run RedSn0w again.
BlackRa1n or RedSn0w should both have worked but you might have to run them twice - running RedSn0w after BlackRa1n on a 3GS can cause problems and I would not recommend using both on the same device. You will have a tethered JB but should be able to run BlackSn0w to unlock - if anything goes wrong you will only be able to restore to 3.13 which you will not be able to unlock. He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. props to confucious for nearly single-handedly taking care of this thread, answering the questions and assisting those who mistakenly "ungraded." You have far more patience than I.

I had to restore my 3gs and the only way I knew how to do it was to let iTunes update it. Lucky for me I have the old bootrom (whatever that means) and thanks to cydia I had a backup of my shsh. They must have made that idiot-proof because I had no idea I had done it or even what it meant. So eventually I was able to restore to 1.2, but then I had no service so I used pwnagetool to upgrade to 1.3 with jailbreak. So far it works fine.

Yeah but now your bootrom is updated and you wont be able to unlock it, if you stay on ATT you are fine...
As long as you have your 3.1.2 SHSH on Cydia just restore back to there with a hacked 3.1.2 firmware and then unlock it with redsn0w.Last edited by stasis; 02-13-2010 at 04:08 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
