This is just a way for Apple to make more money. They seem to do this every year now, and they try to get people excited again for a phone that already exists.
To be honest, I can't wait until the Nexus One comes out. I heard it's definitely going to be an iPhone killer. Then none of these strict rules and guidelines.

This would destroy the Android market. J/K. What it would do is complete the iPhone product line. The only thing that can top the 3GS (droid and palm's pre both have identical hardware to the 3GS, cortex a8, 256ram, similar gpus) is the Snapdragon platform and all that is is an overclocked cortex a8 (same found in all the above listed models). Nothing special about snapdragon at all. Faster cpu with the same about of ram and same gpu. Apple know's that they can't do much more with the iPhone OS while lingering 3g 2G arm11 crap is still out there. Good move for everyone.

i would buy one if available. 8 GB is more than enough with apps like Slacker, Pandora, and Simplify Music 2. to have all that 3GS power for less than $199 is a GREAT idea.... sign me up for 3 if and when they come out.
