Bluetooth Keyboard Support Comes To The iPhone & iPod Touch
One thing that I have always wanted to see the iPhone capable of doing is accepting a connection to a wireless bluetooth keyboard. With Apple's newest line of keyboards being so small, and a plethora of other foldable, travel-friendly keyboards available on the market, it just seems incredibly ideal to be able to use a keyboard on the go for taking notes or writing emails at meetings or at a local coffee shop (might look kinda silly but it gets the job done faster). This isn't anything new, as almost all smartphones already have this capability.
The Bluetooth Keyboard Driver, just released in Cydia, fills this void for jailbroken iPhone users. The App is based on the open-source BTstack project, which also brought us the Wii Mote to work with apps like emulators. This driver runs on all iDevices with Bluetooth support. It is unclear yet, if it works properly on the iPhone 2G. The current version available in Cydia is titled as a "Demo", as it only works inside the app itself, but don't fret for the developer says a version that works outside of the app (in the background/with other apps) and in Cydia "soon".
After installation, start Keyboard demo, then make your Bluetooth Keyboard discoverable (see Keyboard manual). Select keyboard in the device list. A pin code alert tells what PIN to enter on the keyboard. When connected, you can use the keyboard to type into the provided text field. An initial set of Keyboard layouts is provided.
Usage: iPhone Bluetooth Keyboard Driver
Not supported in v1.0
* Apple Keyboard: quick auto-connect
* Selection with SHIFT + Cursor
* Cursor keys in MobileTerminal
* CAPS-LOCK key

I've been looking for this app for a while. And as the article mentions, other smart phones have this already... I'mm looking forward to the version that works outside the app! Bravo!

I found my BT keyboard the other day. I might see if this works.
I never used it when I bought it for my WinMo devices and I doubt very much if I will use it with my iPhone but it's a nice party trick.
I'm sure others will find it useful though.
If I can find it this evening I'll give it a go and report back.He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

I am still wondering why is Apple's bluetooth stack so crippled? It makes no sense.

Hmm that's pretty useful...considering I'm in sec4 bringing your laptop to school isin't the smartest thing, can't trust anyone...but this could be usefull if I could find a smaller keyboard that would fit in my backpack it would be great for taking down notes and writting up essays during class. And if anyfriends missed some stuff I would have the option to email it to them.
All we need is a Bluetooth controller with anolog sticks to play games like N.O.V.A =D

Now if I could only get cydia to stop throwing all types of errors. I've been trying for 15 minutes to download something on Cydia and I get non stop time out errors.Android user suffering from iPhone withdraw.

Now all we need is mouse support so we can play Quake 3 on the iPhone with Keyboard and Mouse. Hard core FPS playin right there xD.
But for now, keyboard is great. I've been wanting this since the day I got my old iPhone (June 29th 2007 <-- That was a good day)Shut up troll.

Tried the Demo
tried the demo last night (using the same keyboard as the picture)... worked great. Nice combination for traveling and doing those longish work emails .. . though see it really only useful at a desk... such as in your hotel room ... but is a real alternative to hauling around a laptop. Can't wait for the full release (saw the full release was pulled today due to a bug ... likely re-release tomorrow according to the entry in Cydia.

At $5 it's not something I'll bother trying. Had there been a trial I would have seen if it worked but I don't think I'd ever use it - and to release it before it was ready (it's been pulled from cydia) is not a good start...He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes.
