Thread: Mozilla Heats Up The Mobile App Market And Claims It Will Put An End To App Stores

  1. #41
I love FireFox but it taking out the app store is just a stupid statement.Even if apple thought it could put a dent in the app store they would never allow it.

With just FF running and little more than two to three tabs open at one time, it is all FF.
I use FF on an old laptop with half a dozen addons and regularly have between 10 and 20 tabs open. I can't remember the last time it crashed. I'd check your addons,

According to the reviews the N900 is nearly as good as the 3GS but with an immature OS, it's bulky and has a keyboard. If that's what you want then an iPhone is not for you.

If you like Chrome, fine. One day it might be as good as FF but until that day I'll continue to use FF thank you.

I agree, Chrome is by far the best browser I've ever used on PC or Mac. Wish it was coming to iphone though...

    Default So.. anyone has arguments?
I only hear "likes" and no arguments (ff has plugins, ok.. opera is good, safari on mac owns all but maybe chrome.. it's just preferences.

ie suchs; that we know, and it's the most used browser. So, it doesn't seem to matter much wich is best, does it?

I think shouting out like this doesnt really help, mozilla needs to show it.

Sure it won't. Firefox Mobile app itself must be accepted to the AppStore to get onto your iPhone so it can't contain or support anything Apple doesn't like. A full Flash support would mean a slow death for the appstore (or at least a huge drop in sales and apps amount), because flash devs would instantly flood the market with their apps (relieved from of any apple-imposed restrictions), without any need for approvements, licenses and fees.

Of course they could spread Firefox Mobile through Cydia, but it won't become a mass product that way.

Better that than nothing at all????

Of course, this only applies to iphone, not other non apple devices, which could prove good for competitors of the iphone.

I really cant see this being approved by Apple... although I thought that of Spotify!!!

I don't really care I want to know if that firefox is making games for their app store or if other IT guys re making them.

I only like it because you can have an actual browser and not some cheap #$% "web browser"

The Mozilla-based browser that comes standard with the N900 already has Flash support for a proper web experience so my guess would be that this would as well. Why step backwards?

And for all those sayng the app store won't accept it, it was written in the OP post..

Mozilla will be releasing the first version of Firefox Mobile on the Nokia's N900 handset, and is being developed for virtually every smartphone platform that encourages a more unrestricted app environment, including Android, Nokia's Maemo, Symbian and Windows Mobile but will of course be entirely unavailable on the iPhone

    Default Iphone
First off "the only thing that needs to be fix on the Iphone" Umm Where the F is the bluetooth stacks that all other major phones have and also no file transfer of music to other pods. The wifi goes out randomly, I have to shut off my phone on a daily bases. There is no App to App functions or multi App run functions. I'm disappointed in the iphone to tell you the truth but to have firefox on it would make it that much better. And if your so into the safari then why is 80% or so people using firefox. Well the only reason I like the iphone right now is for the looks - it's not a biz-phone at all and the blackberry is ugly. Windows has no clue what they are doing in the mobile market. I think the Droid will kill the Iphone in short time as it just came out (in functionality) go play with one of those I bet you change you mind about the Iphone. Apple needs to take the stick outta there butt before they lose a good thing AGAIN.

I agree. But also, Steve Jobs is about as cocky and delusional as the emperor-/king-person in 300 with the huge armies. He merely applies it to technology and his business practices.

FireFox is overrated. Yes, it's good, but I always preferred IE. I still think it's good, but the real thing is this: what do you prefer? On my computer, I like Chrome. It's very minimal, with just a few buttons and the Omni-Bar. It also has each tab in a separate process, which means that one messed up tab doesn't crash the whole browser, which is great for me. And lately I've done a TON of JavaScript, and IE has a built in thing for telling me, "Hey, there's an Error in your JavaScript here," which I find lacking on FireFox. I tried FireBug for FF, but I had a hard time making sense of it. With IE, I could just view the errors, and it would tell me what line it's in, and it's just really easy. I haven't found a single feature in FireFox that is not also available in IE or Chrome that I care about.

I even have a theme that makes safari look like firefox. I would love it if they put this on cydia. I own a mac and still prefer to use firefox on it, I'm not into simple interface... but then why do I like ipods and iphones? lol
