I don't understand why the refresh takes so long for people. My wait time is short and not a hassle.

This may seem cool at first, but reality it is necessary for cydia to refresh when it does. First and foremost when the app launches it is 150% necessary for it to do it. During that time it is checking the packages you already have cached and the ones you have installed. in the next stage you are downloading changes in the Packages file and checking if there are any changes in the Release and so on. Then it will refresh its database once more so that everything is displayed correctly and all changes show up. In simple terms, if you don't do this there will be no changes showing regardless of them existing. This was one of the main problems i had with icy because it naturally did not refresh the sources when the app launched and it relied on cached files. therefore new apps didn't show up and sometimes if any paths had changed to the debs, the download would fail. When adding a source to cydia it is also required for you to refresh on the premise that it has to download THAT specific repo's Packages, and Release. Like i had said before; you need to get those before any of their packages will show. After installing something, you basically are just waiting for cydia to save the fact that you have that installed. so in that instance you will notice it only takes about 5 seconds at the most.
Reference:
APT uses a few main files to determine what should be listed in cydia.
1) Packages - This is basically an index for your .debs and package depictions. It is required that you have a raw version and a compressed/archived version in either gzip or bzip2.
2) Release - This is the information regarding the source itself. This is required to be also in raw form and an encrypted form using gpg.
The Way that cydia manages itself is the fastest way known at this time while keeping it functional.

HOLY CRAP!. I didn't realize so many people are interested in it. I will be submitting an update to modmyi repo shortly. I dont know who put it in iSpazio but that was not with my permission.
Ok submitted an update to modmyi this should help people having issues with the refresh still happening even though the toggle is on. Also the icons have been updated to be more clear.Last edited by nathulal; 11-23-2009 at 11:57 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

this should give Cydia another thumbs up against Rock app. Although i do like the ability to back up a list of apps that were installed.
i'll still utilize both for now.

It now removed from iSpazio repo and modmyi repo has the latest version. Just go to Cydia and Search for NoCyfresh. Its v 1.0.3. People having problems earlier was because the package on iSpazio had wrong permissions. The modmyi package has right permission and will work correctly. Enjoy.
