To be honest, the ONLY reason I jailbreak is to enable tethering. If apple can get AT&T to step up and get their network in shape, I think jailbreaking will be a thing of the past for most people.

obviously, those complaining can either buy a different phone or remember that the phone you have is sufficient as-is to meet your needs.
you don't HAVE to update to a new phone just because a new one is available, people. Tough concept, I know.
Personally, I'm bolting as soon as this contract is up. Droid looks might fine, and they're not anal-retentive about letting their customers enjoy their product.

I have purchased 3 iphones, 2 for myself and one for my wife. If they couldn't be unlocked or jailbroken, I would never have gotten them. If my phone stop being able to be unlocked or jailbroken, I will jump ship to android in a heartbeat.

When asked what he would say to the columbine killers, Marilyn Manson said, "I would say nothing to them. I would listen to what they have to say, because that's what nobody else did" from the movie Farenheit 9/11

will they be able to do anything to iPod touches because they aren't connected to any kind of network?

lol i dont' know what mytouch 3g you were looking at because i also, had my hands on experience with it. While of course it is customizable which is it's greatest advantage.. you are completely wrong about the speed of the Phone. The mytouch is not faster than the 3GS but is faster than the 3G. Yes it has full web browsing but the web browser sucks and does not load as fast as the 3GS. As for the keyboard? How is it that the mytouch keyboard is bigger when the phone itself is smaller than the iPhone? Their keyboard sucks as well it is not as good as the iPhone keyboard it's just not as precise. And i've tested the camera..only thing is that i wasn't in different scenerios to test full quality i was only limited to the store and based on what i saw the mytouch had this weird greenish yellowish background color to everything i was looking at. While the iPhone did not.
So again i dont' know which mytouch you have but i know for a fact most of what you say is not true. Like i said the greatest feature it has is open source, tether like you say, and customizations. Hardware is low grade..

Actually there is an answer to all of this Apple nonsense. Don't know if anyone has touched on it. Ok boys and girls.....can anyone say CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT???
Hello, the iPhone is a product that most of us have "purchased"! Some at a subsidized rate, some at the full boat rate. But none the less, this product is MINE. Not Apples, not Steve Jobs, not my wife's, not yours, not my dog's (she's a mean beotch Sheppard)...BUT MINE!
Is there anyone who maybe knows an attorney who wants the press of representing thousands of iPhone users or maybe is that guy trolling the boards? I would do it, but I'm not an attorney, I only play one on the radio.
Might be something worth looking in to. How many people would be willing to be part of something like that?

I agreed. It's the jailbreak/mods that makes iphone the fun phone. Who wants a boring phone that everyone has. It's all about customerizing.

If apple manages to make the iphone unjailbreakable, then I'll DEFINITELY move over to Android...I'm already cheesed off as it is!!

I just can't see why apple would make such a great product and yet lock out it's main potentials!!!
Let's hope they (apple) see the hand-writing on the wall...others are catching up and developing products that would soon see the iphone kicked out of centre stage.

If we jailbreakers get stopped by this, hello to android...But seriously? Apple can't stop whats been going on for 2 years already at least. They can try, but the devs will always find away, even tethered. I just hope that it doesn't become officially illegal.
