I do not think you will be able to downgrade all the way back to 1.1.4, but who knows....

I don't see why it shouldn't be possible but I think this is just one of many errors along the way. iREB would probably help, but why would you want to go back to 1.14? I certainly don't think it will be a straightforward downgrade but can't see any show stoppers. It's not something I'd like to try myself though...

I make it rain, geo's face shows up on my phone then Itunes detects a phone in distress and says it needs to be restored before it can be used with itunes, it then restores to factory settings, no blackra1n app on my phone.

what am i missing?

I had the same problem. I think I found the solution on iClarified or something like that? It basically detailed that when the phone reboots, if iTunes asks to restore it, just close iTunes, hold down Home + Power until the phone cycles through again and re-run blackra1n (close and reopen). Be sure to close iTunes every time it tries to pop open. The site said some people claimed to do this 5-6 times before the JB finally worked. Mine took about 3. Although now if I ever tether JB it works just fine (new iBoot).

I'm wanting to jailbreak only, not unlock. I've heard that you lose wifi with this jailbreak and every time I want to reboot I have to plug the phone into the computer to complete the reboot. Is this all true?

Please try searching around a bit before asking questions. THis issue has been discussed ad nausea....

1) The blackra1n method of JB (the only current one for 3.1.2) will give you some spotty wi-fi but you can either reset your network settings to solve or go through a normal activation with an ATT SIM card to avoid. It deals with the "hacktivation" process implemented by blackra1n.

2) Tethered jailbreak is only required if you have the new iBoot. There's some instructions on how to do that on a windows and/or a Mac. I only have a Mac so I only know Mac instructions which are: Place the phone in DFU mode, connect to computer, pull up System Profiler and find "Apple" under USB to see iBoot. Or you could just jailbreak and try resetting your phone, if it goes to an iTunes screen it needs a tethered JB and you have the new iBoot. All your settings will be restored when you do your tethered JB, no information will be lost because you're not restoring the phone.

It's cool I already jb and it works fine. Not any problems. The reason for my post here was because the very fact that is was talked about here so much. I saw many post with people stating hey try this or try that. "Trying" isn't really a fix and if it was a problem then they must have fixed it or it was hit or miss because I have no problems.

Glad you got it working! I know it can be really tedious to file through page after page of posts looking for the ONE ANSWER you need to the question that EVERYBODY ASKS. I've been there, too. Just giving a friendly reminder that if you search enough the answer is out there somewhere. :-)

is it okay to update the carrier setting? My 3GS firmware 3.1.2 is unlocked and jailbreaked, but itunes asks me to update the carrier setting every time I connect my iphone to the computer. Should I update it? Thanks

Hey guys! I own an iphone 3GS (7D11) and baseband is
05.11.07. I installed GeoHot's latest unlock software and then
Cydia, rock several times and found that it does not do a carrier unlock but just jailbreak! Also after I jail breaked, I found that there is network signal fluctuation.. So i flashed my locked firmware and am using it now...what say you guys??? Does anyone face a similar problem.. For sure it does not carrier unlock! I tried with three different SIM cards of different networks and was unsuccessful.. I also tried connecting the phone to iTunes after changing the sim, switched off and on, disabled
3G, tried airoplane mode etc.. Nothin favors my way..

My friend and I, both with 3GS's and both unlocked through blackra1n are having network signal fluctuation problems. Anyone else dealing with this?

Also, I can't access the phone's APN settings. Where on the old jailbreak if I went Settings > General > Network, there was a tab called "Cellular Data". Now there is no such option.

What gives?

Just upgrade the normal way, using itunes, and then use blackra1n to re-jailbreak, and blacksnow to re-unlock your device.

Without more information it is very difficult to help.

BlackSn0w unlocks the 3G and 3GS so is of no use to you. The Dev Team's Push Fix should sort you out though.

Untethered is unlikely to happen any time soon. If an exploit is found it is unlikely to be released before FW 3.2 is out IMHO

Why would they wait to release it?

The iBoot can't be upgraded AFAIK, so once they found the exploit, Apple would need to switch iBoots again, which would cost way too much

i wouldn't hold my breath for a new exploit coming soon.
