Default iPhone Heads to the Final Frontier - NASA.app

Our friends at CNET put it best. This is one small step for man, one giant leap for the iPhone.

Only hours ago, NASA released its first official app for the iPhone. The awe-inspiring application allows you to explore different NASA missions like the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and Mars Exploration Rovers. In addition to the mission details, you can also check out images, videos and keep tabs on what NASA has to report about about the latest missions.

Designed to provide information, updates, and images on all current and scheduled NASA missions, the app--which can be found in Apple's App Store under the name "NASA app for iPhone--nicely allows you to search for any specific mission, say, Constellation, and then find information and images just for that project.
The application was created by the New Media Team at NASA's Ames Research Center, which is charged with keeping an interested population of space-nuts informed of both future and past NASA missions.

Having delved into the app as quickly as I could, I can report that the coolest feature of them all is the ability to track where the International Space Station is relative to Earth in addition to a host of other spacecraft currently orbiting earth. Within hours of the app's formal launch, there were already eleven posts - many from astronauts - about present space missions and progress reports, many of which included images and videos.

Users can access NASA countdown clocks, the NASA Image of the Day, Astronomy Image of the Day, online videos, NASA's many Twitter feeds and more, the space agency said in a press release about the app.
The NASA app is free and is available in the App Store.
