and say there are 5,000 useful apps in the app store, those will be ignored for the pointless MMO's, Games, RSS feeds, and whateverelse is usless in the app store.
where microsoft only have a few apps, they are actually decent, over here in the uk, the BBC offers an iPlayer service which is extremly useful if you have missed a show on BBC, you can catch it on the iPlayer, and microsoft offers iPlayer as an app, apple doesn't.
its just 1 small app, but it makes a difference, apple need to get serious about this multi-million egg they are sitting on, before it becomes full of utter crap and people go elsewhere for guarenteed quality.

Ok, yeah, I'm an Apple fan. I have iPhones, iPods and a MacBook Pro. But I also have several Windows PCs and laptops. And yep, I had a plethora of cell phones. Do I think everything Apple does is great and everything MS does is bad - heck no, that would be crazy.
BUT...FUNNY is FUNNY and that video is FUNNY.
Sometimes we just gotta relax and take it for what it is...satire. Laugh, it's not all that serious.

And open source? That's cute but one of my friends always has to reformat his phone because he downloaded some crappy ROM from joe the plumber. I don't want everyone having access to the Core OS of my phone. As long as apps are open sourced than that's fine with me.
lol @ eating the apple. But PCs being far more superior than Macs? ehhh i don't know about that statement. Windows is just the industry standard but that doesn't make it far more superior. Have you ever owned a Mac? Used one? I use both and enjoy them for what they do. I hope the release of Windows 7 will have the bugs fixed when it comes to printing.

You wouldn't want to eat the Apple from Apple computers - I always thought it was the remains of Alan Turing's apple after he took his fatal mouth full.He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

if M$ was lucky enough to have an app store than they would also have any easy way to point out the pointless apps. however they dont and if you want an app for your M$ phone then :
1. first you need to hunt down the app for what your trying to do from whatever site might sell it (AppStars is a joke)
2. then be sure to get the proper version for the WM OS that you are running
3. say 3 prayers and hope that Activesync wants to work as it is supposed to
4. figure out if the file you downloaded is the type that is supposed to be run on the computer and then installed through activesync or if you are supposed to transfer the file to the phone and then run it.
5. if everything above worked then you should have your new app on your WM phone
until M$ gets their stuff together like the iPhone had they should try to avoid poking fun at one of their biggest weaknesses.
i agree there are a ton of useless apps but who am i to say what is pointless and if someone took the time to develop them and somebody e;se wants to buy or download them then thats great. its nice to know that if i want an app that just has a big red button your not supposed to push then its there for me.
when M$ advances to a point that they have some organization between their phone models and OS version and what works on what etc... and all their apps are in one place they should just concentrate on the serious market share they lost and why.
the Apple on our phones may be a small part of what sells the iPhone but in reality for the average user it is the first time (my wife for example) that they could have a smart phone that was easy to find, install, and use apps on with really no computer knowledge.

the marketplace is a place with apps but it is not even close in ease of use to the app store. im sure you have used it. i know a lot of not-at-all techy people with an iPhone that have many apps on it and they use them all the time. i also know a lot of fairly techy people who are confused on how to use most things on their windows phone and rarely are they doing all they can with it.
i wasnt trying to make a stance on how much better the app store is for me but for the average user and even below average. i gave my old 2G that is wifi only to a 10 year old the other day and after i showed them where the app store button was they had no more questions for me and played with it for hours and when they returned it i had like 10 new apps on it that they had downloaded. this girl was 10 years old.
i have adult friends that cant figure out how to do things on their WM phones.
i personally miss a LOT of things i could do with my WM phone that i cant with the iPhone or at least not without JB first. i still have a modern WM smartphone and i still like it but you really cant compare the app store to the marketplace."i believe louisiana is the pelican state"

That being said, it's looking almost as though the diehard Apple fans are becoming quite defensive in this thread. Both the Android OS as well as WinMo are developing into fairly robust platforms.
Sure some people have seen a G1/MyTouch running the Hero ROM, and yes, it's laggy because the phone wasn't designed with that particular OS version in mind. Try comparing an older generation Mac and trying to run the newest OS on it. Might be a little on the laggy end of things, just like these phones.
Sadly I'm not all that impressed with the new design of the Verizon Droid phone. I love the specs, but can't get over the asthetics of the case. I'm a creature of comfort, and things like sharp edges just don't jive with me on a phone, even though I much prefer the Android OS over the iphone.
I like being able to have actively developed widgets straight from Google. I like not having to go through a million steps of configuration just to get them up and running. I absolutely LOVED my email widget included in the Hero ROM. Being able to actively go through email on my main desktop was fantastic!
While I'm not a devout fanboy of the Android OS (I've been using an iphone afterall) I do feel that they are going to make a decent dent in the smartphone market with Verizon advertising behind them. I like being able to theme out of the box, to change backgrounds without having to hack my phone. I like the ability to bring my phone in for service without being told "We can't help you since you jailbroke your phone"
C'mon guys, I realize that there is the absolutely devout following behind the iphone, but practice what you preach. Be open to innovation, enjoy that other companies are pushing incredibly hard to breathe life into the smartphone market!
On a funny side note:
Since I don't get 3G service at work, I routinely have to turn on my wireless tethering from my G1 just to get a decent connection to the internet to download things from Cydia. I <3 you AT&T.

There's no doubt in my mind that Android will leave a dent in this business. They are the next best thing to iPhone OS. They just need to be more independent and not take pieces here and there from iPhone OS and claim it's better. They need more innovative ideas and they'll be great. Also, better hardware and more refinement.

When I was working with modding my G1 on a regular basis, one of the key parts was making sure you had the correct radio version and a specific board (at first) before trying to load things like the Hero ROM. Quite a few people bricked their phones, and yes, I do feel for them. (Note: When I say brick, I don't mean it in the iphone users here sense that they have to reformat. I'm talking use the damn thing as a paperweight type brick)
I personally enjoy making modifications to my phone, but I also tend to do a lot of reading beforehand, which is really what is needed when making modifications to the core of the OS. It seems people don't really understand this currently and get upset when they were the ones to make the mistake.
I'm sure I'll hop ship to the next best thing when it comes around. Thankfully I don't even pay for my iphone anymore since it's now my "business line."

My 2 cents..PC originally had a better marketing model. No real competition, Apple needed a loan, Gates bailed them out and made good on the loan with good products and a better marketing model. PC is everywhere, yes. I have both. My Mac never gets a virus, I didn't have to buy a yearly package to protect it. My Mac does way more for me. I have an iPhone, owned every model, love it to death. Had three Blackberry's, will never go back! NEVER..
You know you have arrived when you've made a product that your competitors want to copy but can't quite get it right. If people think that the Marketplace won't have useless apps your fooling yourself. Really. Mircosoft is spending millions to make "FUN" of the appstore. No thats funny. The Joke is on Microsoft. What they should do is make a product that is compatible with the appstore and pay to use it! Make the Xbox 360 compatible with the iPhone, an app perhaps. Control your Xbox 360 Marketplace on the iPhone.Black iPhone 4 iOS4 AT&T
