Canon App Enables Printing from iPhone, iPod Touch

Image via PC World
In case you missed Tony Hoffman's coverage in his PC World article yesterday, Apple fans and Canon users have something to get excited about: the Canon Easy-PhotoPrint for iPhone app. Essentially, it is now possible (and easy) to print photos right off your iPhone or iPod Touch.
I checked out this bad boy late last night and it is phenomenal, far superior to other means I've employed to print pics from my handset. Making it even easier to like the app is its cost: free.
On start-up, the Canon iEPP app, which is now available for download through iTunes, automatically finds printers on a wireless network. For now, printers compatible with the new app include PIXMA MP990, PIXMA MP640, and PIXMA MP560 All-In-OnesThe Canon iEPP app lets you select from a wide range of paper sizes and paper types, from card-size (2.2 inches by 3.4 inches) up to letter size. You can choose multiple photos from your iPhone or iPod touch Photo Albums and print up to 20 copies.
It's no secret that Wi-Fi capabilities have become a high priority for those in the market for a new printer. Just this summer HP reported that its wireless printer business has grown in excess of 50% in one year. Apple should take note and, subsequently, take steps to build on this momentum and enable ways to print directly to Bluetooth or perhaps USB-connected printers, as many users have been hoping and wishing for.You can start your iPhone camera directly from Canon iEPP, and instantly print captured photos.
For now, in the absence of a dominating iPhone printing mechanism, the Canon iEPP app will likely lead the way and set the standard for iPhone picture printing at least in the immediate future.

I want to see one that communicates with a companion desktop app so that it can print to any printer available to your desktop.
