For the 3G: IF YOU SEE THE BLACKRA1N logo on the phone - it's 95% likely it's done. You just need to reboot the phone. (FYI The rock your phone desktop client will do this for u automatically if you're having trouble getting out of recovery mode).

IF YOU DIDN'T SEE THE LOGO: Just try to do it again via rebooting the iphone holding down the home and power button -- get it to power up and try again.. works for me on 3GS/3G various firmwares.

with the 2G phone winpwn used to do this when the USB port had issues. Swap to a new port. The fix on 2g was to QUICKLY unplug and replug the usb, but I don't believe it's the same on this. Different port issue.

I cant update for some reason.. i live in australia.. does anyone can update through "check for update"? when i click the button it just said i had the latest version (3.1) anyone had same problem as me?

i can DL and restore it to 3.1.2 but i dont want, i want it to update so all the things inside my phone unchanged.. anyone ?

*Edit : i think FWChanger caused it.. nvm..

Finally got it to work.

Completely restored my iPhone 3G.
Allowed iTunes to activate it but closed iTunes down immediately afterwards.
Closed Firefox and all other open programs.
Ran it and everything worked great.

Hope this helps anybody else having issues with this. 5th time's the charm!

Works fine in W7 x64 (3G) if you set compatibility mode for XP.

Wow!!!! That was fast and it works great on iPhone 3gs download and install now don't hesitate..!!! Oh and donate it's worth it..I already did..

Oh and I forgot to mention I'm on 3.1.2

didnt work...i clicked make it rain it said putting in recov mode...and now its stuck on running....my iphone screen is on the recov mode screen with the usb and itunes pic...what to do??!!?

People, if you have a problem and seek help, please be helpful yourself and state which OS you have and in what environment you are running. This makes it approximately 100 times easier for people (who read) to compare results and find their answers faster.

Ok, again with the repeat/stupid question. I hit make it rain and it goes into recovery and itunes opens up saying restore. I get the message saying jailbreak is done once it reboots but it never reboots. Im using W7 and the phone is just the 3g.

After several months with an unjailbroken phone, I've now done my 3GS with BlackRa!n.

Couldn't have been easier.

All settings and apps still there + a Blackra!n icon on the iPhone makes the installation of Cydia / icy and/or Rock a breeze.

Well done.

Personally, I'm going to leave it a day, then if my phone doesn't spontaneously explode I shall be donating to Geohot.

close all programs before starting jailbreaking

Yeah same here. I'm running Vista Home (32 Bit). I first did a restore and back-up and then it went into restore mode lunched Rain and then it want into recovery Mode. Then Rain was stuck in Run, and that's All it did. IDK..i'll try again when I get off Work today, cause its not working now.
