TomTom iPhone Car Kit Pricing Released

image via GPS Tracklog
As previously noted, the TomTom iPhone car kit - consisting of a cradle and suction-cup mounting hardware - has been delayed until at least last month. Yesterday, the European iTunes App Store had the car kit up for pre-sale before unceremoniously taking it down. Today, there was a short press release from TomTom confirming the European price and adding US pricing:
Some observers were frustrated that the Euro App Store listing indicated that €99 would be the price for app and car kit together when the reality is that the two will be sold separately. This makes for some considerable sticker shock - in the US, that's $119.95 for the kit on top of the $99 for the app - that GPS bloggers are taking exception to.TomTom announces today that the TomTom car kit for the iPhone will have a recommended retail price of EUR 99.99 or USD 119.95.
The TomTom car kit will be available this October and will be sold separately from the TomTom app. It will be compatible with the iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS.
All further details on the car kit will be made available soon.
The cradle includes a separate GPS module for improved positioning, and provides enhanced audio capabilities in addition to iPhone charging. However, it lacks features - such as live traffic integration - that competitors are including in ther iPhone products, and requires that any third-party case be removed first.
As alluded to in the press release, there is still no projected ship date for the product.

119+100 for the app=what's a separate Tom Tom device cost?

At that price, this is so not worth it. 100$ for app + kit would have been bearable.
Who comes up with these prices seriously?

All the waiting for this and i thought it would cost around $45 . I should have known better . I think I will stick to putting it in the cup holder . My cost $0.00 .
P.S. How about a give-away , that would be the only way I would probably get one .

For these price's I buy me a GPS device and not get it for my phone $99 for the App + $119 for the kit = $218 for that price I'll buy the regular TomTom GPS Device for less $119 or $199 at BestBuy. I almost forgot plus the F-iPhone. price $517. in total if got the iPhone from AT&T or $818 if got the 3GS with no Plan.

What an idiotic move. Making the combined total cost more than a stand alone unit. Smooth move TomTom. Do not want. Will stick with navigon and their superior(and cheaper) app.

To expensive
They are crazy they want $99 for the app and 119 for the mount, it will be better to buy a complete navigation that will not be interrupted whit incoming calls

Wow that's surprising that it's that expensive although it does have some enhancements, the GPS Module (antennae) and Audio would be nice. Not sure if I'll bite the bullet though.

Go to best buy and buy a kit for the iPhone. it doesn't charge it but only holds it and it's worth it..price = 19.99 and it has different ways of setting it up. I've got mine perfectly set up.
i'm still waiting for a decent price to appear because i'm still using xGPS. which is free and uses google maps. does it's job for now.

This kit is nice but I can not see myself buying the Tomtom app.... I love my Navigon.... hope Navigon comes up with something like this...
Edit: Now that I look at this kit again... I do not know if I would use it because I would have to take my iphone out of its case and I don't think I would care to do so....Last edited by thetoothfairy; 09-25-2009 at 02:29 PM. Reason: added more...

^ I read on a blog that this is totally compatible with other Nav apps, so even if your using Navigon as I am you will still get the features. I hope that's true. Still a pricey accessory.
