Cult of Mac has a simple straightforward hack to enable MMS messaging on your iPhone 3G or 3GS if you just can't wait... or if, like me, you have fun playing around in your phone's guts a little.

It takes about three minutes, and Leander Kahney warns that some users have said it doesn't work. Your mileage, as always, may vary.

this MMS enabling thing is news from months ago that has been posted to death already

First of all guys, you're mocking him WITHOUT A SINGLE REASON! This is the latest method with a new file and some new technique to enable MMS on your 3G/ 3GS, updated to 3.1 and works even with iTunes 9.0! Please do some research before being rude to someone...

the "latest" method? more like the SAME method that's been around for months.... with plenty of threads already made about it...

This is what I did to get MMS working on my iPhone 3GS 32GB Using iTunes 8.2 on my AT&T Network:

1. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities)
Type the following command: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

2. Downloaded and Installed the file for Carrier 5.0 file (Reboot iPhone)

3. Put my sim card into an alternate phone that takes a sim card

4. Went to here (https://mymedianet.wireless.att.com/app/MC) and signed up for media net

5. Sent A MMS or SMS from or to the Alternate phone (This step changes your phone in your At&t account and makes your online account think you have the alternate phone as your primary)

5. Switch the sim card back into the iphone and Bingo!!! MMS

Hope this helps someone that was having trouble

Did it last Friday on my 3G and New 3GS and it works great.

I used the second phone trick for months now.

With or with out jailbreak, I got it working when I had 3.1.

Now if I can just get tethering back. I had it on my non jail broken 3G and 3.1 killed it. Anyone know how to get it back without a jailbreak.

I did this on my phone yesterday. along with 4 others. however on my 3gs i had to ssh the carrier bundle into my phone as stealths guide shows

i agree that the idea is old, but the program and files are new.

on the other hand, anyone that wanted mms that badly would have probably googled it and already found the link by stealthbravo and either had/or didnt get it to work. but for the few in the world that never thought to google it, thanks for bringing it to those peoples attention. they will surely thank you

actually this is the latest... he has a newer carrier file listed it comes up 5.1 in my phone and pic mail is working after doing this method... yea some of the steps are like the older ones that everyone had listed on here.. but the file is diff and actually works... dont bash this guy cause u think this is just like the rest

Yeah, ive been doing this for like 3 months now. If you do those steps and it doesnt work, do the media net trick, i heard they topped disabling the mms once its on the account.

i tried everything. it just never sends i keep getting the red exclamation point.
