You know I was thinking if this FW update works like all the others you can have a phone with custom carrier such as one made with Make It Mine, and other jailbroken settings and some of them will still show in official FW if you restore from backup after the upgrade. It obviously won't jailbreak you or anything else, but I remember doing several FW upgrades and still having custom carriers and such by restoring from backup when upgrading.

My second thought on this was that perhaps a jailbreak can be achieved for the 3GS through the restore from backup file. The FW is already activated, and this file is perfectly willing to insert information and code into the phone after activating it while restoring it.

Unfortunately there are very few things retained in the backup - custom carrier logos being one of them - but not JB.

Hi for everyone. I need Your advice. I'm on 3.0.1 redsn0wed with my 2G(thanks confucious and angiepangie). Really I'm happy, just few things isn't cool (wifi connecting delay and battery draining 20% quicker as it was before). Is something better in 3.1. Is it possible to jailbreak and unlock 3.1 with windows (I'd find just with MAC), is it trustable? What about app. Will same app work in 3.1 are working in 3.0.1? Thanks in advance for Your comments.

I just unlocked and jailbroke a 3g iphone that has never been unlocked or jailbroken. Does that mean the baseband was intact? I have been unlocking iphones for people for two years now and this is my first post also my first 3g un/jb.

Presumably you got pwnage from the download link at the top of this page? Where you will also find the ipsw.

i have a 3g and when i downloaded this itsaid it was gonna create an .ipsw file for my 3g(s). is this an error or is it ok to do?

If you used the 1,2 ipsw it is for the 3G not the 3GS. If you used 2,1 it is for the 3GS not 3G.
