i think this is the beginning of the end for the jailbreaking community.. like BigBoss said a while back when the iPhone 3gs were on verge of being unlocked by the devteam and geohot.. he said that this 5hit is gonna get harder.. and soon damn right impossible to hack.. and that even now how both the iphone3g and 3gs were kind of a matter of luck being that exploit.. was not suppose to be there..
so i dunno.. i don't think i can used the worlds greatest device(speaking in potential) without it being jailbroken.. i think sooner than later i might just hang up the gloves on this bad boy.. cuzz if its getting this ugly now with apple.. its only gonna get worse !! Peace!!

Is there an "official" procedure for downgrading 3.1 to 3.0.1. on the 3g?

^I disagree because all this does not affect the original iphone. Sure, I need the unlock jailbreak 3.1 to use my phone on tmobile. The 3GS is a new iphone in many ways. The only thing I can say is the dollar value for an unlocked iphone will definitely go up in value. I would invest in buying a few of them. Especially if unlock is getting hard to do.

So again, read on. Oh, and don't you "fail" to understand where they are going with this.

Don't get the issue (with the IBSS and IBEC files and Apple server chacking) mixed up between the 2G, 3G, and 3GS. All this ONLY affects the 3GS. The 3G and 2G can still be restored to 3.0 (or 3.01), if that is where you are now. You can shift-restore as always.
The issue is the 3GS cannot be restored to 3.0 (or 3.01) PERIOD. Even if you are there now. Shift restore will check with Apple and will fail.
NOTE however that in NO case can you fully restore to 3.0 (or 3.01) if you have already upgraded to 3.1. The baseband is upgraded in 3.1 and cannot be downgraded to anything lower, thus rendering Ultrasn0w moot.
Bottomline: for 2G/3G, if you are on 3.0 or 3.01, stay there, and you can keep shift-restoring to 3.0 or 3.01.
For 3GS, you cannot shift-restore 3.0 or 3.01 unless you have your IBEC/IBSS files and someone comes up with a way to fool iTunes to use an alternate checking authority other than Apple.
