iPhone / iPod Touch OS 3.1 coming today, iTunes app management

First of all, today's event will be mostly surrounded by iPods etc so I believe the new OS 3.1 to be the only iPhone news!

WARNING: DO NOT UPDATE YET IF YOU WANT TO JAILBREAK OR UNLOCK AS IT CAN PERMANENTLY DAMAGE YOUR ABILITY TO DO SO!





Apple is releasing the iPhone / iPod Touch OS 3.1 today itself! What will it have? Well, we don't know much but, it will allow management of apps on the homescreen from iTunes itself! Secondly, you will be able to use over 30,000 pre-made ringtones that were rumored earlier this week, each priced at $1.29.



Coming to the AppStore front, Apple is finally making some changes! Genius integration for AppStore will be included in the new OS and works just like the one for Music. There will be a separate tab for this in the AppStore on iPhone.



Finally, no one will have to pay for this update, that includes our iPod Touch peeps if they have already purchased the OS 3.0!

UPDATE: The iPod Touch Software Update is now online! Just open iTunes and Upgrade if you have it purchased or purchase first. iPhone version and iTunes 9.0 are sill not available.

This week Apple will be all over the news with their announcements at Wednesday’s “Let’s Rock” event. But with so many new owners of the iPhone 3GS, and with so many new owners of the iPhone 3G (perhaps sold to them by these new 3GS owners)…now is a good time to send out this general advisory.

If you update to Apple’s new software using the normal iTunes process, you will lose your ultrasn0w unlock. In fact you may lose it permanently, because for most people the baseband firmware cannot be reverted to a previous version (unlike the main application CPU firmware).

But don’t worry…our PwnageTool program lets you update your main firmware without touching your baseband firmware, so you can still have the best of both worlds. But you must be diligent about saying “no” to your iTunes request this week to update your firmware.

Does this mean that MMS function will be turned on on our phones? I know we have to wait for ATT to turn it on on their end but I have read that in some places it's already working.

Hey I have a question for anyone who may know, Does the 3g get the battery percentage toggle like the 3gs? and is that all thats been updated for 3.1? Not complaining, just wondering..

i think im ready to press update LoL. I cant help my self, the phone always runs better updated. Just like every other OS. Plus I can go a few days without a theme its not that serious!

LOL... Im at work right now! Damn it! I would be updating right now...

if u do, lemme know about the battery percentage thing on the 3g.. I heard before the update that it might be a possibility that apple will add it to 3g.

anyone else not getting the update notice? it keeps telling me i have the latest firmware available at 3.0.1.
