I think I'm more shocked that people are shocked that Apple did this. Um, it's Apple people. First iPhone for some of ya? Get used to it.

I noticed this exact same thing yesterday while looking around, found it strange that no one had reported on it.

They replaced MemoryInfo with a pissy 'lite' version, I'm so glad I bought the fully purchased version when I did.

iStat is still there, but 1.1 removes the free memory feature.

Buh, who cares? I swear, all these "OH DAMN YOU APPLE FOR YOUR SILLY APP WAYS" threads/replies seem to ignore that there does exist a certain helpful App site for whenever Apple does ridiculous stuff like this, one which provides downloads to several versions of retail apps that show up in the App store. My point: it's not like the version everyone likes has vanished from the internet. If you don't like the newest update and you're jailbroken, just download and use the older version. Maybe if you cared enough, you could even manage a way to install both the new and old versions of the app side by side.

All that being said, isn't there a jailbreak app which does this?

I'm fairly certain I've been using one for quite a while (and I'm fairly certain its a jailbreak app since it allowed killing of specific processes.) All thats going on here is the app is killing off several overly huge processes that tend to run in the background. With my iPod Touch, it always was the Mail App daemon (which continues to run in the background if you enable Push email notifications - i.e. I'm telling you to set it to manual if you want to easily save memory) and usually the Safari daemon as well.

Bottom line: you don't need this Appstore app, you never did, you can do it yourself, you can do it free, and more importantly you can do it better.

Free Memory is awesome. I can have 168 MB RAM free even with all the mobile substrate add-ons and plug-ins I have in one easy step. I will not be losing this. No update for me.
This is getting a lil' ridiculous...

Who cares. I just use force quit, comes standard on every iPhone, probably why they deleted it.

How do u free up memory in sbsettings?
    1. Install SBSettings in Cydia first
    2. Swipe finger across top of iPhone screen to activate SBSettings
    3. Click Process button
    4. Press "FREE UP MEMORY" button.

    Pretty simple!

Its actually fairly simple to explain:

Slower iPhones mean more iPhone 3GS sales.

Its as simple as that ...

Frikkin CrApple. But then again, who is iStat fooling? With the set feature that 1.0 has, what can be more useful to take the place of freeing up iPhone memory?
